  2. Not heard of those before, they do look pricey!
I eat an oaty type breakfast bar every 1/2 hr or so, interspersed with ALDI Haribo type gummy sweets, and of course the occasional bug.
    Electrolyte tabs in the water.

  3. Over ten mile rides I generally eat one chewy blok every 1/2 hour. I take two 750 ml bottles, one with a tab the other plain. Additionally I eat a small oat type bar every 1-1/2 hours and stop for coffee mid morning/afternoon and a sandwich for lunch.

As a diabetic I try to keep an eye on my carb intake. Since my HbA1c has dropped to 50, I have stopped insulin and testing my BG four times a day.

I’m trying not to change too many things at once so have knuckled down and bought another box, if my HbA1c comes down in 3 months I will probably look at alternatives.

  4. I have to be careful with any of those caffeine loaded gels /drinks, they give me the heebie-jeebies.

  5. I think lots of folk struggle with gels, I just don’t like the ones I have tried.

  6. Just back from a week pedalling at the southern 100 on the island. Pedaled to and from heysham. Weather's been boiling, there's a sneaky ice cream in there too....

  8. A short shorts gear review.
I recently took a little punt on a pair of AliExpress Bibs (don't hate/judge me). My strategy was to buy the ones with the best reviews despite the price and not simply the cheapest available. Having watched a few vids on topic, I opted for a pair of DAREVIE Men's Cycling Bretelle Seamless 2.0 PRO Level Bibs. Price was approx £30 delivered.
I wore these for yesterday's 100 miler. I'm impressed, they remained comfortable throughout the day and didn't 'give out' after 40-50 miles like my other pairs. Anyone that's done any endurance type riding/sport knows that it's comfort that will win the day.
The only neg, is that the straps are a tad fiddly and require a little 'rock on Tommy' to get straight and aligned correctly prior to setting off.
The sizes are listed as 'asian' so use the size chart. I'm a stocky 90kg and bought 3xl, which are fine, but snug, I've ordered another pair (seamless, original version £20, same pad) and gone up a size.
We'll of course see how they hold up long term.

In conclusion, not for the PAS or Rapha gear signalers, but good quality and value for morey.

  9. In 2016/7 I started with relatively cheap bib shorts but over time moved to more premium (expensive) Assos & LeCol.

I reckon on average the bibs I’m wearing cost £25/year and probably have several years left, so that will come down a bit more.

Generally I cycle 4 days a week and I have just started throwing out my older bibs, which I guess were bought in 2016/7.

Comfort and reliability are all I’m interested in so I’m keen to hear how these Aliexpress perform over a longer time frame.

  11. Today I ordered from my LBS a second set of DT Swiss G1800 wheels with rotors, cassette and 32 mm continental Grand Prix slicks. This will allow me to swap between off road/winter tyres and narrower summer slicks in 2 minutes.

  12. A bit bouchie for me.
I can only imagine the disappointment when going for a ride the first time and realising it's still just a bike.

  13. In preparation for the winter, it’s coming and my planned LEJOG in 2026 I’ve been considering using the trainerroad app as it’s been recommended, my problem(s) are

I dont have a power meter on my three bikes and on my two outdoor bikes have SQ labs XL pedals (longer shafts)

    Road bike with Ultegra Di2
Gravel bike with SRAM rival etap
    Keiser M3i indoor trainer

Anyone have any tips or ideas that aren’t going to cost four figure.

    thanks.
