I have two bikes currently off the road, and have been for a long while. I have an ongoing neck complaint which has now been diagnosed as MDDD so certainly for the foreseeable my riding career seems over. I have a black 749BP and a red 1198s which have been dormant and so need work to get back to shape. My plan was always to get them back up to showroom condition but it's always been a job for next week and it seems it never comes. So either sell as is or do i just forget about them and hope they appreciate for another 10 years and then sell them on? Will they appreciate if not running/need work?
The market for bikes is crap right now. So it maybe better to wait. Of course the market may get worse In your place I'd probably advertise both as they are and see what the response is? I hope your neck gets better.
a difficult and depressing decision which i can't help with a clear answer to, but could come down to how much you could do with the money versus whether you can afford to let them languish. As to whether they appreciate or depreciate, i think you could almost flip a coin looking at the way the market is behaving. We've had slumps in the UK in the past and bounced back but what with the constant insistence on drivers/riders adapting alternative forms of power propulsion (plus other factors), it does feel different this time.
This was the plan, i even purchased a 999 engine to go in it but it turned out to be from the S4RS not the SBK so there was a difference with the rear axle fitment and in the end i had to sell the engine at a loss. It was from that Eastern European guy who was infamous for a while on here for stripping down completely fine Ducati's, anyone remember him? Have had the 749 from new (2006).
Sounds like the 749 is the one to keep unless the 1198 is worth a lot more. What is the mileage on them? Someone on here might fancy a project if you wanted an easy sale to a forum member
I am in the position right now of disposing of my bikes and bike bits.I do not think the market will get better any time soon.None of my grown up family are interested in bikes so I will save them the hassle of getting rid of them when I have gone.I have taken some considerable time to reach this decision but it is the right one for me.
Wish my father had done something like this with his 5" gauge steam engines while he was around to decide where they should go. It's not about the money only I would have liked him to sell or give away as he saw fit
Sorry if I am going into areas you prefer to leave alone, but before selling up, is it worth making sure you are on the most effective NSAIDs for your particular situation / history / age / health? Realistically, you are unlikely to be able to be pain free, but effective pain management can be a game changer.
Sell the 1198, buy a cheap early 2000's M900 monster as your fun bike and splash on the 749 (mono conversation is the best suggestion)
Is the plan to keep one to use or for investment, why not realise their value and buy something you can use.
