My bike (2015 Multi 1200) was last serviced and filled with Motul 7100. Is it OK to top the oil level up with Motul 300v, or do I need to buy more 7100 ?
Although both are synthetic oils, 300V and 7100 are aimed at very different roles. 300V is a double ester and has a lower detergent content than 7100. I used to use 300V exclusively in my track bikes and prefer to use 7100 in my road bikes. IMO, I would not mix the two. Andy
This is going to be controversial. You can mix any oil (that’s suitable for motorcycles with wet clutches) with any other, and that includes different weights and different technologies eg old fashioned mineral oil, semi-synthetic or fully synthetic. In an ideal world we don’t, but when push comes to shove ie you’re away from home you need a top up but the oil you use isn’t on the shelf, you can. Motul 7100 is widely available, can you wait until the shop opens to buy some & up? Can you use 300V in the interim? Yes. Will it harm the engine? No.
