I'm bored now and the upside is that everybody here gets to suffer! And I am not bored now! I've got trips to Exeter and Plymouth lined up this year. Next year should be Skye, Worcester and mebbe Plymouth/Spain but certainly Plymouth. But, But, BUT. Butter, cream, cream teas, and I've lost track. Oh yes, the question was going to be, is Liverpool worth a visit? Never been and as one of England's big cities, it is a gap in my experience. Park that one as it definitely won't be next year. I'm thinking more train journey than motorcycle as I'm not confident on taking on long rides. And would not plan anything that involves riding or driving as the DVLA always sit in the background with the stated aim (on which the whole organisation is judged for pay rises) of taking away my driving license. Once they have their claws in you, it seems impossible to get free! Had my TEAMS meeting with my sol and Chase de Vere this morning. I have to pay income tax on any profits that they make for me and I fear that my tax situation will grow in complexity in the forthcoming years, with the sale of our family company. Going to have to get professional advice and all this stuff is well beyond me - and there could be some big hits! I'll go back to being bored now and will stop bothering people!
I grew up just outside Liverpool so, tbh, I've never really done the touristy/sightseeing stuff, but there is definitely plenty to do there. There are several museums (the Maritime Museum and the Slavery Museum are supposed to be particularly good), there's the Albert Dock and there's a whole industry devoted to The Beatles (if that's your thing). If you know Brizzle, it will feel quite familiar.
Yes go see Liverpool, its always sat in Manchester's shadow but is vastly underrated as a city. Plenty of tourist stuff to do, lots of history, great architecture, good food, one good football team and most importantly mainly! great people. One of the better UK cities in my view. Not far from me and I know it well... happy to help you out with any recommendations or bookings etc
Thanks. It isn't so much a Beatles thing that I want to do, but a bit further back. And just for a look around. Maritime and Slavery museums would be interesting. And that could lead on to getting a ferry to the Isle of Man. I've worked there but never really had aa good look around the whole Island. When i worked there, I just used to fly in from Birmingham on a Monday morning and fly back on a Friday afternoon. I don't know if you can do that anymore but I don't want to fly there. I want to go by boat. I did used to go running after work and did do some of the TT course coming out of Douglas and going back into Douglas. I was there right up until the Manx but couldn't get a hotel for the week when it was on, Be interesting to go back.
I've just posted about going to the Orkney Isles next year. That means taking the ferry from Aberdeen, but I don't feel like getting to Aberdeen from mine in one day,so I was going to break it up. After all. I can take as much time as I want. Newcastle looked a good stopping point. Again, I have never been and it looked OK.
Liverpool, especially the central Liverpool One area has massively regenerated the City. It's a young vibrate place to be and still with a huge identity and character. Hotels are quite cheap. Have rellies in Lancashire and spent the 90s fooling around in the abandoned factories and warehouses around the docks. It's gentrified now. Don't take a bike, like London it may get nicked. Grew up just outside Worcester, give that place a miss IMO.
I like Worcester. I found this place quite randomly. It all came about because most trains from my local station finish in Worcester, but I only did it by train for the first time a few months ago. It is really easy to get to by road for me as it it just up the M5. In the Summer, the hotel is super-relaxing as it is right on the banks of the River Severn and I normally eat and drink outside. I think that there is a swan sanctuary just across the river and they do wake you up in the morning when it gets light. last time I visited The Commandery Museum and there is some interesting history to the place. https://www.diglishousehotel.co.uk/ https://www.museumsworcestershire.org.uk/museums/the-commandery/
