  1. Hopefully all will be resolved to your satisfaction. Sounds very amicable and positive.

Best wishes to the young lad and his family.

  2. I've worked in procurement for too long I think.

It's surprising how often 'difficult' suppliers Kids, Partners, Parents, or even pets are ill.
Well above the national average if my experience is anything to go by.

  3. so i would like to say thank you to everyone who posted, it has been a good help, im not out of the woods yet, this time yesterday all i had in my head was worst case scenario thoughts, so its been reassuring, hopefully this thread will help someone in the future

i had thoughts of ditching ducati and going back to a honda or a kwaka, what a thought??

we all know Ducati ownership can be a ride, but i am now even more sure keeping these babies going with all the grief is all worth it, looking forwards to getting back on road

one of my little philosophies in life is to always try to be calm, respectful and polite, it get can you any where, crack a joke, make them laugh and its game over, you've won.

    LOVE DUCATi

  4. Good lad. I've kept an eye on this and this and you've come out of it with great credit :upyeah: Best of luck in the future, I'm off out for a quick local blast !

  5. @southlondonCBR I think that’s a fair resolution for both sides and I hope a) you get the bike back on the road sooner rather than later and b) it’s not as expensive for them or you as it could be.

  6. back to square one

so it turns out one of the plastic oil pump gears has failed and broken, there is metal in the oil.

they are saying it not caused by over filling with oil, and i hate to say it am inclined to agree, although i wish it was

cant see how 100ml too much oil is going to blow and engine, it would be a common problem, all over forums etc

i am done now with this bike, owes me well over £12K, i have spent loads on it, money no object, all OEM parts, oil etc, i seem to spend more time hating the fucking thing than loving it.

pidcock triumph who sold it have gone

i offered it to a breaker for £5500 and he had no interest,

do i get it running and sell it on cheap? part ex with a dealer and get A V2?

or turn my back on ducati and buy a fireblade?

  7. How much does the shop want to repair it? Is it worth asking them for some goodwill gesture?

As they have the engine apart, I presume, it might be worth paying for them to repair and rebuild it so that you at least have a working bike to sell. In its current state, it will be worth very little and be very difficult to sell.

I genuinely feel sorry for you. It could happen to any of us. But don't let it get you down. Shit happens. Make a plan and move on :upyeah:

  8. its £1200 plus parts, ive pretty much told them to go ahead, it will be a complete engine rebuild, and they will guarantee all work labour, as you say it worthless otherwise.

just had a new water pump on the car, £1035 (still leaking) new tyres on car £880, tyres on van £360, new ignition in van £1450 (mercedes) a funeral and a holiday, now this, and original bike service £530

i suppose ill make a plan when i get it back, which is a long long way away

  10. Easy for me to say, but put the other (non-bike) expenses out of your mind. Just bad timing. If the bike costs £1200 to get done, get it done - it’s worth a lot less as it is. Unless you’re prepared to break it yourself and have a shed full of parts waiting to sell.

When I first got my 1098, I went through 3-4 months of stuff going wrong. A few got sorted by the dealer (pain getting the bike picked up from Essex to BHam and back twice (and the waiting!) but they were good about things) and other things I had to suffer and pay for. It threw a belt last summer and that plus a desmo service cost me a fair bit, as well as all the stuff I’ve paid for over the years (an EVR clutch was £1k ish for example).

That hating feeling? I know it well - you hate the bastard and can’t think of anything except getting rid of it and moving on BUT you will get to a point where it’s sorted and you can enjoy it again.

  11. yep 100% agree, i believe if you want to drive on UK roads you have to be prepared to swallow bills, been a cack few months, but they are just parts like belt, bolts and pumps, eventually you get through it and have trouble free motoring.

the van was a bastard, locked up and stranded me 3 times, then mercedes lost it east london, but by going to main dealer got main dealer guarantees, the £1450 was money well spent in the end

paying it is no problem, it stings for a day or so, but there are loads who drive who get wiped out when something goes wrong with their car, they either scrabble about for a super cheap mechanic, put it off or get the bus.

swallow the bill, ride the bike for a while, and see if the hate turns back to love

  12. If it were me, I’d get it repaired, sell it and buy something Japanese, they don’t constantly break, you just ride them. I’ve owned my Gsxr 1000 since new in 2009 and it has 16000 miles on it, it’s taken me all over and never let me down once. Just my opinion though.

  14. Ive followed this through....just my incoming 2 cents...its down to you as a person...and where your priorities lie....

Some people always follow the money....for quite a few of my mates, everything is ruled by the money, if its done too many miles they sell it, if they think they can make money on it, they sell it. Most decisions are financially driven.

Im firmly in the latter, i buy my bikes on emotion, i buy them, cos of the way they make me feel...to a certain extent the money doesnt matter, if it makes me feel good, be it when im riding it, or even when its parked in the garage, just opening the door, looking at it and think, fuck yeah, i own that...then the money doesnt matter. Case in point most recently, my SXV - half a dozen rides, crank splits in half. had to remove the engine myself (crash course in pulling the motor out of a bike i was just getting to learn), a fucking nightmare getting it back up to the guy i bought it from, paid him 200 for rebuilding it, and covering the spares that he used, (a set of shells and a crank) i still owe him a crank!, then paying to get it sent back down, and then putting the whole lot back together....i think most people would not have even entertained that. But, its all outweighed by the way it makes me feel....its fucking mental, looks amazing, still imo, peak supermoto, doesnt get any better. Ironically i actually enjoyed the whole process of getting the engine sorted out... Happened quite a few years back also, on here i think its a sticky. A literal silly mistake in information led to a 3k rebuild of my hyper....i still own it, dont regret it one bit, i dont use it as much but, when i do, its an occasion. Tonight ill be on the sxv to a bike night, butterflies right now looking forward to getting out on it later.

I think bikes are emotional to people that love them. If youre ruled by the financial side of it (and thats fine, everyone is different) no problem with that, then your experience could be different.

  15. Just to re-iterate this is nothing on the OP. Most of his posts have been money orientated which i totally get. Because of the fact that they are, most of the posts are skewed that way. Last year the clutch went on our car (little Toyota IQ) - garage quoted me 1200 quid to do the job as the garage owner said "theyre a right bastard" - found a video on youtube, ordered a clutch (still being pretty wary as ive never really worked on a car to that level) - took the day off work (friday) so i had the weekend just in case anything went south. I got the job done with the help of my son, took about 12 hours or so (i think the pros do it in about 4 or 5) but it was thoroughly satisfying. I tend to look at stuff from the angle of the pay off rather than the problem. Going back to the Hyper at the time the rebuild cost more as i had the engine cerakoted and the crank balanced....im still seeing the pay off years later...bike is smoother to ride and no paint has flaked off of the motor once its been SDoc'd it looks like new...

  17. Heh - i definately wont be the richest guy in the graveyard thats for sure....its funny going back the sxv i own it for pretty well all the wrong reasons....
    1. Its uncomfortable.
    2. Noisy as fuck
    3. Requires constant maintenance. (500 mile oil changes on the main and 1000 on the gearbox)
    4. Its a fucking Hoodie magnet.
    5. Drinks fuel.
    6. Some spares are expensive as fuck and rocking horse shit.
    7. When the time comes to sell it (probably when i physically wont be able to ride it any more) im heading for 60...it wont go for very much for all the above reasons...but, i fucking love it. As i say im out on it tonight..l.furthest out ive been on it. Will it make it back ive no idea but should be good fun trying...

  20. I've not read throug all the posts, but a quick comment on my recent experience - Do not trust dealerships with your money, and more importantly, with your time. It will be wasted at no loss to them with no effort from the dealership to cover the lost time.
