For reasons that I can't understand, NordVPN are trying to get their teeth into my wallet big time. I don't get it! As I have no compelling desire to pretend to be in a different country in order to access "entertainment" and I can't even keep up with Netflix and Amazon Prime stuff available for me in the UK, so what am I not understanding? Everything at mine goes through Plusnet and still will if I sign up to the latest "once In a lifetime offer" so what is the point of it? Anyone else spending £10 per month being anonymous?
Have used it when in France to get UK TV but a friend has built me a little box that now feeds to my home ISP address so the firestick thinks I am at home when I am out here. Genius.
No I use a free one that works fine just so I can get past the nanny state treating me like a child with their new law.
Proton does have a free VPN, should you be so inclined. Their paid version allows P2P sharing, should you be fed up with paying 20 different streaming services, and rather sail the high seas.
ok, I get it, if you are British but not currently living in the UK. You can get British content that may may be available outside the UK. Does BBC iPlayer and ITVx do this shit and I get that. Maybe they think that I am not British, so need to get content from some other country. And also they do not realise how boring I am!
protonmail / VPN and other stuff. My kaspersky VPN has stopped working recently & that's been good for like 6/7years.
I wouldn't be online without a VPN. https://www.pcmag.com/explainers/why-you-need-a-vpn-and-how-to-choose-the-right-one#
It’ll only be a matter of time before Herr Starmer bans VPNs because “wOnT sOmEbOdY tHinK oF tHe cHiLdReN!”
Agreed that you have to be very careful with such choices but in the case of ProtonVPN I think you'd be ok. They consistently rank highly in product reviews and their free service, which has limited features, is supported by paying customers for their other features & products. Which, of course, you may well subscribe to in time. It helps their code is open source and they are moving to be a non profit company. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_AG
I am a NordVPN user of some years, though I also have a Proton email sub. When my Nord sub ends I will be likely add Proton's VPN to that subscription. @Zhed46 nailed it - "when something is free, that generally means you are the product". https://www.tomsguide.com/features/the-pros-and-cons-of-using-a-free-vpn
I have a vpn. Used to use cyberghost, now use surf shark as got best reviews for streaming. If y out are using any streaming service via Firestick or smart tv such as Kodi I’d recommend getting one. Mine cost about £50, 2 years and unlimited devices.
Thank you for the link. Out of curiosity I set my desk top PC as my 1 device, the installation went smoothly although I wouldn't know if it is working because I don’t access region restricted web sites. Might try their email app as well. Andy
Sadly, things are so bad now after the passing of the Online Safety Aft that if you’re located in the UK any website can end up being region restricted.
Warning about free VPN. Many have direct access to your stuff and can be used by scammers. So choose a reputable one
I wonder sometimes if I’ve just gone down a rabbit hole I can’t get out of. Conspiracy tin hat wearing hole. Then I watch the news. Over 500 arrested for the Palestine protest (peaceful). 2000 arrests in a few months for online comments. A shop owner being arrested because he put a sign up about scumbag thieves because someone found it offensive, and now causing offence to one is enough to lock you up. Then I feel even more depressed than when I thought I was a jelly brained conspiracy nut
