959 Looking To Get A Front Brake Master Cylinder That Actually Works

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Ohferfeksake, Aug 13, 2025.

  1. I have a 2017 959 with the well documented crap MC that constantly gathers air and i'm bored of weekly bleeding so begrudgingly need an upgrade. Does anyone know of one that doesn't also require burning £200 on replacement run/stop switches like you need to do with Brembo RCS? Do Hel/Galespeed/Accosato etc levers clear the OEM switchgear? Any reccomendations? Also any experience with the 19/17 options (original is 18 but that doesn't seem to be a thing)?
...Or anyone flogging used switches/ MC at reasonable money? Ta.

  2. The only way I got round that issue was to remove the ABS, but as mine was a track only bike wasnt too worried about doing it but had to spend a bit more as needed new lines and the ABS delete module

I also had the issue with clutch side (more than brakes) and had to replace to an Oberon which fixed that side instantly

  3. i second the abs delete, but i ride on the road, the simpler the system, the less can go wrong.

    never had a problem

  4. Exactly what do you need to do to remove the ABS system? I’m going to do this to my 1199s trackbike over winter. It never goes on the road, so really no need for it anymore.

  5. i didn't do mine, but all new pipe work , plus cap offs for the actual ABS unit, it makes bleeding a synch

mines in the shop other wise id measure the hoses for you

i am told, but dont quote me, that once the ABS unit is capped off its good to go, i have 330mm discs, so loads of bite, i have no doubt you could go over the bars if you pulled hard enough

  6. Fitted TWR foldable levers to mine. 1299 master as I’d fitted the 1299 electrics. No Abs delete and zero problems.

  7. Thanks for replies, seems to follow the research i've done in that some people seem to have fixed it with an ABS delete and others by changing the master, almost like its the combination that's the problem. Did you change the master first and it not work Wasey, or did you go straight to the ABS delete? I also have the clutch side issue but that takes longer to build up and concerns me less, good to know the slave upgrade fixes it tho.
ABS has saved my incompetent arse on the road a couple of times so i'd prefer to go the master upgrade route... as long as it works. The first two 959 model years had a different master to the second two (different part numbers at least) so it appears Ducati realised something wasn't right, although no recall of the early version . It would be really interesting to know what the change was, whether the first ones are just plain faulty (letting air past the seals as I suspect) or if they spec'd them wrong? The OEM on mine is stamped 18mm, a 19 would move more fluid on initial pull so getting the pistons back to the disc faster, so maybe they swopped to a 19?
Good to know the ABS doesn't seem to be the fundamental problem Bettes, although it looks like you changed the calipers and master so a bit differrent (and run/stop switches integrated to the throttle housing?).

  8. ...BTW There's a chap on the US forum who whinged enough about the spongey brakes that his dealer eventually managed to get him the later version master under warranty and he supposedly never had a problem afterwards which nis what makes me think that's the issue.

  9. @Ohferfeksake, I changed the master, calipers, discs and abs pump as I fitted full 1299 electrics so those upgrades were necessary. A lot of work but it all worked as it should. That bike was a dream to ride but my body was way past it! :sob:
