(small) Bike Things You've Done Today

  1. It's about 30 years since I took a ferry, but it did gradually come back to me how disappointed I was back then with the crappy deal. Going abroad without getting discount fags really put a crimp in it for me!

  2. Winston are still available but none of the supermarkets appear to carry them anymore. You can get them via various online snout pushers - if you, lol, upload your govt. ID, passport scan etc, natch - or, for instance, buy from British Virgin Islands with bank transfer or some other frankly dubious process.

    Well, sod all that!

    I'd want soft pack, too.

  3. So ducati say a v4 oil change is 3 ltrs without oil filter or 3.2 with. After my marathon oil change its taken about 3.5 ltrs to have the oil level 2/3 up the gauge. Go figure.

  4. Took my boy for his first ride ever last Friday! He’s 13, but I have always been very sceptical about taking him behind me. Too scared to go down and hurt him. They are precious, aren’t they?

Anyways, he got to ride the Weber carb Supersport, which he absolutely loves. And he really loved the ride! Happy Mommy and Daddy now.

  5. Called the shipping company to see when the bikes and other stuff will clear Spanish customs, no word yet.

  6. Scrambler collected from MR after the ‘service’ was completed. The bike had 4 closing shims, new belts, new chain & sprockets, new headstock bearings and various clutch parts replaced. I’m waiting to see the bill tomorrow :scream: :joy: The bike needs an MoT as it expired during the service so, on my home, went by my testing station of choice to book an appointment and they did it there and then. Result :D Whilst I was at MR, I also collected the Scrambler taller seat that I’d ordered and was going to test it out when I got home but as the local air temperature hits 37°, I’ll be testing it out another day :joy: Andy

  8. Sold my Gixer K5. :astonished:
The new Yam does everything it can do apart from 180 bhp.
I’m down to two bikes. It’s quite liberating.

  9. I set up the balancer in the kitchen as previously stated. She was fine about it:grinning:
The Mrs was off to the shops and was quite happy with me doing that in the kitchen:D
When she came back from shopping I said don’t move it if you can’t help it…….fine! :astonished:

    Result!:p

  12. Nice one Nasher, well done. You are exactly right.

I decided to take it back and get the fitter to rotate it. Big discussion ensued with him insisting the green dot was the heaviest point of the tyre, idiot.

‘It won’t make much difference’ he said.
‘But it WILL make SOME difference’ I replied.

Now this was the same guy that insisted when I ordered, that Dunlop didn’t make a Roadsmart IV.

‘They do a 3 and a 6 but definitely no 4’. He insisted.

Then I figured out he thought IV was six.

When I got the rotated tyre back on the balancer with the green dot correctly next to the valve it needed no weight to balance. Whereas before it needed 10 grams. As we all know that 10g gets much heavier at speed.

On my visit to the Triumph museum they had a display about valves. It said, and I quote:

“At 150mph, the 6 gram tyre valve assembly is subjected to a rotational acceleration of 1470G and weighs 8.8Kg”.

I’ll take their word for it. Even though I’m not likely to be doing 150 mph a 10g weight is still going to be substantial at legal speeds.

I paid for it, I want it right.

    I won’t be going back.

  15. Removed the V4 Pikes Peak screen, dismantled and removed the Iconic Garmin Satnav Mount and gave the bodywork revealed, a good clean in anticipation of DHL arriving with my Evotech sat nav mount. Still waiting so adjusted a bit of free play out of the Monster’s rear brake as requested by someone who has small feet :D, did POWDERS on all 4 and did a bit of rearranging so it will be a bit easier to get a bike out without having to move the other 3. Still waiting for DHL, although they are still within the 2 hour delivery slot I was given. As well as bringing back the ‘face palm’ emoji, we need a ‘twiddling thumbs’ emoji as well :joy: Andy

  17. Oooooh! It’s getting closer!!!!

It’s not even my bike and in fact it’s highly unlikely that I’ll ever see it or one like it but I feel like a kid waiting for Santa Claus! :D

  18. Finally sorted out the fuel tap on the Aprilia RS125, it's been stood idle for far too long and basically become blocked.

I tried all sorts of tricks to unblock it but it wasn't having it, decided last night to buy a brand new one but at £100 I baulked.

This morning was I fired up the Ultrasonic cleaner 90 minutes later and a bit of carb cleaner and some small picks it's all clear and enough fuel getting to the carb to have it running for longer than 30 seconds.

Left it to my Son to fix the niggly bits as he's mad keen to get it gone quickly to make room for a 450/500, I've narrowed it down to either a BMW 450X or the CCM 450GP.

He however would prefer to use his own money and buy a mid 90's Pegaso his budget being anything close to £1000.........
