Yeah I think it’s 14 days. But from my own experience/memory, the NIPs come through quite sharpish when the camera vans are involved.
Sorry, within 14 days to the registered keepers address, https://www.askthe.police.uk/faq/?id=de094aff-8389-ec11-93b0-000d3ad5ee87. Andy
Yes, that all makes sense and it’s exactly what I thought. I was just seeking confirmation that the NIPs land through your letterbox quite quickly. The last time I got nabbed (35 in a 30) I received the NIP in 3 days. Impressive.
I’m hoping to have avoided a NIP from speeding on the A27 nr Brighton on 4th August. I don’t know what my speed was as I was talking on handsfree phone call. I did a motorway awareness course for 71 in a 60 on the M42, I’m not sure when that was, is there a way of checking when that expires? edit: 14/7/2023 was the date of the motorway awareness course, found in my calendar. Is the 3 years from the date of the offence or course that makes you eligible for another?
Another sinner here! 64 in a 50 A44 Steensbrige got offered a education day... Lovely picture of me overtaking a tractor.
A friend recently attended one in Wiltshire, but I’m sure he said there was a choice and could have gone to a session, but the dates were less often.
There are 3 awareness courses: Motorway awareness, Speed awareness and Jumping red light awareness (not sure of its proper title) If your earlier offence resulted in a motorway awareness course, your new one should come under speed awareness so the 3 year rule does not apply as it is a different course.
I’m beginning to believe I’ve got away with it. This could be attributed to my other worldly cat like, ninja reaction times. Either that that or I’m a jammy bastard that rounded the corner during a shift change…
https://www.askthe.police.uk/faq/?id=de094aff-8389-ec11-93b0-000d3ad5ee87 The NIP must be served on the driver or registered keeper within 14 days of the offence otherwise the offence cannot proceed at court. If the details of the driver are not known, then it is sent to the registered keeper. In either case, so long as it arrives at the relevant address within the time limit the notice is valid.
It’s all good. I recently bought the vehicle concerned. I got a fine regarding the dart charge (again, my own fault. Asked the Mrs to pay it. Bosh- £38 fine ) And yeah- words were exchanged… But my point is that all databases must have been updated as I got the good news re dart charge. Or in my case, fine…
Yes, I am doing one next month with Microsoft Teams. It is too good a money-making opportunity to stop doing it!
But infinitely preferable to points. We all know the speed limits, or we should do. If we’re caught it’s a fair cop, guv…
In addition to the previous posts, the links below to the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme, used by Police Forces to provide drivers accused of a road traffic offence opportunity to attend one of these courses instead of a prosecution, may be of interest: https://www.gov.uk/book-national-driver-offender-retraining-course . https://www.ukroed.org.uk/ . https://offer.ndors.org.uk/#/home . https://www.ukroed.org.uk/courses/ .
