We’re travelling up to Yorkshire next week, so are looking to stop for breakfast somewhere near (not in!) the Leicester area. The criteria are: Needs to be close(ish) to the M1, as we don’t want a huge detour. So, close to a junction. A farm or cafe, not a chain. Dog friendly. 100% has to have black pudding! Motorway services leave me cold, so that’s an absolute no go. Where do the connoisseurs on here recommend?
Not sure about the availability of Black pudding, but here's a couple of really nice dog friendly places .... The Wellie Deli at The Barn at Newbold Coleorton | North West Leicestershire deli and cafe or (and I see BP on the menu) ..... Staunton Stables | The Stables Neither are too far off the A42
The cafe that’s part of superbike factory in donington is good, just off the M1 and has lots of bikes to look at and a well stocked accessories shop
Now those look bloody good Edit - the wellie deli is off, as it opens too late. We’ll be in the area at about 8am
I know you’re all on the edge of your seats, so here’s an update. We went to the tuning fork near Rugby. Was fantastic. Easily doable round trip from Surrey, so I’m going to take my mate there in a few weeks. Couldn’t manage the cake this time, hence the need to return.
Bacon that's crispy.... hurrah! so many places under cook the fat on the rashers so it's left stringy & inedible... yeuck.
some of those tall cakes look good but i'm guessing £20 a slice, and second the tinned tomatoes comment.
Tinned tomatoes pretty much always have much better flavour than 'fresh' water bag tomatoes that taste of nothing much in particular. Admittedly in the photo it does look to be an err... ample portion.
could be it was one of those choice menus where the option was baked beans LOL which is what I would've gone for
Sausage tax Look carefully - there's one hiding beneath the bacon & mushroom alongside a piece of black pudding glistening invitingly to the side. Waiter - may I have extra portion(s) of toast?
