Now im back looking for a ducati after having Japanese bikes last few years. Looking for a 748r ohlins model , 996s , 998 , panigale r 2015+ or a v2 bayliss. Need to be low mileage, low owners and have a fsh with all keys/books etc and very good condition. Standard the better but would prefer one with a performance exhaust Located west sussex so the nearer the better as I dont have a van but willing to pay for delivery if its possible. Let me know what you have
This feels like a post where a new member tries to find out where a load of quite rare Ducatis are garaged?….. cynical maybe the reason is that all those bikes are so so different they can’t really be compared.
I know there all different as been riding 35 years and owned many bikes including 748 , 959 and 1098 . Looking for something special and depends what's about as can't decide. Missed out on a 748r at a ducati dealer and also missed out on a 998 both 5 hours away so asking what's about . I've been a member since 2019 and I haven't the time to go around looking at rare bikes in people's garages as you put it . I can delete the post if you wish
Someone on here just advertised what looks like a really honest Bostrom rep 998, there’s also a low miles v2 bayliss at Optimum bikes. There’s a dealer selling a 748r Ohlins slabby also but wants serious money for it, £13k I think, where personally I think they topped at £10k, my mate bought a 2002 with 5k miles on it for £10500 and that seemed pretty expensive at the time.
I've replied to the bostrom post The bike specialist have 2 x 748r but both 16k lol and the bayliss dealers are asking silly money for used ones . The 748r i missed out on was 14k but obviously included recommissioning. As autumn hits prices will drop but so will the amount being sold until spring time again hence why im looking at a variety to see what pops up but in my head im thinking is it worth going back many many years to the 748/996 without any electronics or qs etc but I only do 2500 miles a year dry weather so its nice to have something rare and good to look at
I think there’s loads of posts over the years about just how aspirational the prices are for the bike specialists bikes! I think most manage to buy under their asking prices by some margin. the non ohlins style 748r for sale on here is worth a look. For me while the ohlins bikes are good, the suspension is still pretty old! I’ve ridden a couple of ohlins bikes a lot as my mate has had 2, and he star of the show is the engine for sure, that’s where the value is for me anyway
Showa forks on 748s can be made to work really well..just need a bit of revalving and set up and are at least as good as the Ohlins.
I’ve owned most of the bikes on your list:- 02 748R full ohlins 2001 996 with Nitron shock Panigale R V2 track bike with K tech Currently own a beautiful V2 Bayliss that I have had from new. If it’s to ride get the V2. If it’s to look at get the 748r. If it’s to brag get the Pani R. Most of all enjoy.
Good post and spot on to point . I wanted something to ride thats good to look at and to brag How was the pani r ? Have you tried a v4s ?
I had a Pani v4s which I sold to buy the Pani R. I liked the twin more, it’s a total animal and fitted me better (I’m pretty short). Not great as a road bike though so after a couple of years ownership I chopped it out for the Bayliss. That has the best of all worlds.
Get a panigale R. They are bloody amazing. I love mine Even better now it's been mapped, smoothed it out no end
It honestly depends on what you want. You would need to try them to really know. The R would be £20k for a good one. Bayliss c£14k. V4s same. V4 in my opinion is the least special of these. But I may be in a minority there! @cookster will say Pani R is worth it of course. And they are mega. But, Bayliss is more useable more often.
I had a 1098 few years back and it was horrendous low speeds and through town , juddering/ shaking /lumpy but guessing the pani r has improved since the 2007 1098 is had I've just sold my zh2 se supercharged which was absolutely nuts and so smooth at any speed but just miss the sportsbike and sound of a twin or v4
The Panigale twins sound incredible even when standard. Real visceral stuff. Less so the V4 unless you spend £5k on a system.
In my opinion yes, the baylis is a lovely bike but it's still a standard v2 with snazzy paint job and ohlins. The pani r is a special bike all over esp the engine once used to it can be ridden the same as every other bike, don't get me wrong all the panigale range are great but I feel the R has that special feeling over the rest. 18k on a homologation special with 200bhp or 18k on a tarted up v2?? As mentioned try and test ride all , I think once you ride the R you won't look back.
