Ecu Repair / Swap

  1. I’m in the process of diagnosing horizontal injector problem on my 749. I know it’s a signal issue, so either wiring or ECU problem. I’m about to swap out the loom as it’s in poor condition and a previous owner hacked into in at some point for I think a power commander.

If it’s an ECU problem are there any recommendations for repair / replacement? I’m just running the stock map, but do have a Termi fitted, and the bike ran very well previously.

I was thinking I could buy a used ECU and have it flashed with the correct map and the immobiliser disabled. The fitted ECU is IAW59M.A8

    Thanks.

  2. Common for the coil or injector drivers to fail on the 59M ECU.
Would be best to replace with a secondhand unit. You can either stick with the 59M or upgrade to a 5AM. If you go with the latter, picking one up from an 848/1098/1198/SF/HM would give you a virgin ECU. Once flashed with a suitable DP map you can program your keys to it (if you have the red key). A 5AM from another bike can be virginised, but avoid any HW103 5AMs.
    For the 59M - 979000166 map
    For the 5AM - 96513904B map

  3. Power commanders plug into the loom, no hacking, more likely an alarm or immobilizer that's been removed?

  4. Thanks Chris,
Thanks Chris, that’s really helpful. Sounds like I’ll be looking for a new ECU. I have the red key so it sounds like I should look for a 5AM ECU then? I have JPdiag software but I’m guessing I need some other software for the Maps / flashing?

  5. You might be right Ivor, the loom had various joins in it so I’m a bit suspect of it. I think it had an alarm on it at some point too as well as power-commander.
