From day 1 of ownership, when riding in company, the riders behind me have said my rear brake light is often lit when it’s obvious I’m not braking. On inspection, the brake light switch only requires a very small movement of the brake lever to operate. My Daytonas are euro size 47 and it would appear the welt of my right boot just catches is on the brake pedal which is enough to operate the switch. Fast forward nearly 2 years and I thought a change in my foot position on the foot rest was avoiding the problem but riding back from Portsmouth in the rain last night, I’m told my brake light illuminated the night sky and was blinding everyone behind me. Is this issue unique to me or are otherV4 Multistrada owners having the same issue ? Short of using a different foot rest, I’m now lost for a solution Andy
The metal spring resting on switch under the rear brake pedal may need adjusted as it might be touching the switch in no more when the pedal is not being pressed. Also check that the same metal band has not got bent and is not at the contact point. Have had this problem on my previous multi. An easy fix.
That was my original thought but my Pikes Peak doesn’t have that type of switch fitted. It is a simple black box maybe 10mm square by 5mm deep and a white plastic plunger, no metal strip spring Andy
Just been out to look again and post #3 is (as usual) utter bollocks You are correct, steel spring over rubber protected plunger. Heaven knows what I was looking at originally. That said, had a detailed inspection of the parts and the pedal travel stop, doubles as the anvil for the switch spring. With the brake pedal fully ‘off’, there is no free travel in the switch plunger and as soon as the pedal travel stop/anvil moves as little as 1mm, the switch operates. The brake pedal main return spring doesn’t seem to have any ‘guts’ in it and briefly just brushing the side of the brake pedal gives that 1mm movement, really, REALLY frustrating. Andy
