I watched them go the other way a few months ago. It was a nice bit of introspection to wonder how many more times I will see it. Its part of nature's life clock
Botswana, you say? I have contacts over there who can get your money out in exchange for a small fee.
Yesterday - first outing for me & my mate on our new to us matching Sherco 300s having fun on the byways around the Avebury, Wilts area. Wondering whether I'm too old for this after an 'off' due to my ambition outweighing my rusty skills! Last ventured off road about 20 years ago in my 40s... Anyway - hats off to the V4 Multi rider we met who was navigating the Ridgeway on what looked like Rosso 4s!
Around Avebury is my old stomping ground. The "Avebury Bends" by that pub were of legend. I can't remember there being a speed limit there, but I bet there is now! And I know The Ridgeway well as I used it for running and dog walks. It has some evil ruts from the tractors using it. Doing it on a Multi verges on madness, but fair-play to the block for giving it a go! I think it was a Yamaha DT250 that I always wanted, but never got one. To me, that would have been ideal!
And I am supposed to be the one with brain damage! Out of interest, I just looked on Autotrader. There are two, both from the '70s, which was when I was doing this shit, and they are mad money! If I am crazy, then I'll fit right in!!!
I believe Avebury was where I went in the early 80s to buy stainless fasteners from Andy Molnar and get my AJS tank powder coated. These days he resurrects the Manx Norton. Steve Parrish on a 'Molnar' Manx.
The DT175 is a much better bike than the 250, especially off road. They have virtually identical power but the 175 is much lighter (by almost 40kg) and does everything better. So, unless you’re enormous and won’t fit on a 175 then that’s the one to get.
Probably would have been better and that is what a lot of Green Laners, who passed me, had. I wouldn't be able to do it now, anyway. What was the definition? RUPP - Road Used as Public Path. Some memory still working! And it is Stamp Duty that I have to pay if I acquire my Uncle's shares. Not very much my brother says.
Ouchy 'off' after my interaction with uncompromising ruts, having encountered them a bit fast! His & his... My mate used to do schoolboy motocross, so he certainly knows how to ride on dirt, etc. However he's a stupid twat and fell of one more time than me. Basically the Shercos are competition bikes that are way better than me, but fun...
