my 899 is getting an engine rebuild so i am looking at the current v2's on autotrader. i have been going over my options, i will 100% be chopping the 899 in and it will only be for a super low mileage v2, maybe bayliss, ive been and looked at a few of the new v2s and even turned down a test ride, ive tried to like it but its just not got "It", the exhaust is vile, shit welding, the side view its missing something. honestly, after pouring over V2's for ages to me the best looking one is still the 899, to me the curves, cuts and air intakes all over the place are perfect, like an f40 almost not sure how i am going to feel when i get the 899 back, i want to keep it, but ive got a feeling i'll be worried about it breaking down, shitting myself every time it makes what i think is an unfamiliar noise, which will be all the time. the replacement a good low milage 23/24 v2, with akra and a few bits, ducati chelmsford had a bayliss with the termis exhaust, which was delish View attachment 345128
I wouldn’t go from 899 to V2 (older model) you won’t like it, ridiculous heat, huge flat spot in the power between 4-6k revs, even sillier mirrors and personally to my v2 the quickshifter was awful. I would get a 959 with Akrapovics, or get the new V2 tbh. I’ve had 899’s either side of my Panigale v2 and currently have a 959 corse so I’ve had a few
Was going to suggest another low mileage 899 but there don’t appear to be too many about and those that are, seem to be quite ahem strongly priced Tge V2 definitely needs decent pipes even my mates special sounds a bit on the tame side and not very Ducati. Hardly hear him coming up the road!
I think more important on the V2 than the previous bikes for sure, if I’d have kept mine longer I would have just sucked it up and put the pipes on and got it mapped. Mine felt like someone had stood on the rear brake from 4k revs to nearly 6, at first I never noticed it then I swapped with my mate and he was on the 899 and it felt like it had 200cc more
thats all good to here, TBH im hoping that when the 899 comes back my confidence isn't dented, you know, where you start putting off long trips because of err confidence, because as a bike i fckin love it, when it was in my garage and not the workshop i used pinch myself that it was mine. if i was going to get another of the '99' bikes it would be some sort of 1199 the new one? honestly anyone on here could improve the looks with some sticky back plastic and some crayons
