So what have you done today..?

  1. Same as the bike show and classic car show, costs??

  2. That's been the vibe for the last couple of weeks actually. I've met and had conversations with a lot of interesting and kind people on my westward meander.

I'll be sorry to go back "home" tbh but I'm in court next week so I need to return. However, I was just FaceTiming my friend Justine (the one who has also worked out that the Dolphins and Orcas are an aquatic 5th column) so I'll be off again to see her afterwards (Yorkshire) and then to see my aunty and uncle who live in a lovely village near Ripon. Well, I say "live", because like me, they also love the nomadic life and so they spend about 6 - 9 months of the year on the road in their LWB Ducato camper. After that, who knows? Scotland perhaps or I'll head over t'Pennines to see my dad and two of my brothers, plus nieces and nephews, who live near Liverpool. I also need to go and see my other brother and his husband who are in the process of moving to a village on the Norfolk coast this week. The only thing I have a firm commitment for is an enduro training day I'll be doing with one of my cricket team mates in early November, which actually reminds me that I still need to book it. I also want to come back here to this site before they close for winter in mid November and see a bit more of the area.

Like Jools said at the end of Pulp fiction "I'll just walk the Earth......Like Caine in Kung Fu. Walk from place to place. Meet people. Get into adventures."

  3. Hi Vader, the 'disagree' was not intended at all. This is what happens when scrolling through the forum after supper and then falling asleep. :joy: I think that most are hateful little men. Much like here.

  8. If you have the space to spare why not leave a few, or all, of them as they make great over wintering spots for all sorts of critters, insects, possibly hedgehogs, frogs/toads etc etc.

  9. Ah yes, holiday blues on a Sunday night is never good... what with 'school' the next day.

But it does make you wonder were all the online vitriol comes from because when you actually do meet & talk to people they are for the greater part, as you say, kind & interesting. Do we change when we anonymously log on or is there tiny number of people who really are like that in real life as well?

I'm retired now and although not quite roaming the Earth I bimble about talking to whoever, the girls in the bakers, the scallies on their bikes, the trans guy down the Co-op & the dog walkers and would you know, they are all friendly & amiable. I'm a bit of a stoic at heart (ancient meaning) so try to 'learn what things are my own and what are not' and to 'make the best of what is in my power and take the rest as it naturally happens.'

  14. Maybe you’re just getting bigger? I visited my old primary school a couple of years ago and I couldn’t believe how tiny the tables and chairs were!

  18. I don’t want to know how you know that.

  19. I don't really have "school" as such because in common with most barristers, I am self-employed and answerable to no-one but my senior clerk and the Almighty (in that order). I'm kidding. It's like that at the start of your career, but the power dynamic gradually shifts until they end up as your bitch. We still have crossed words though, mainly because he's an anally retentive mother hen who likes everything "just so" whereas I approach life and work like jazz, in that I just turn up and improvise, which means I absolutely drive him up the wall. In fact he's been sulking this week because I didn't tell him I was going vanlifing and he only found out via one of the other clerks. It's more like a marriage than a work relationship.

Hence, unless I have a court date in my diary, I can pretty much do what I want and so with Starlink internet and my Macbook I can work "on papers", drafting opinions and pleadings, sending emails etc and holding conferences (meetings with clients) by video or phone more or less from anywhere.

'Tis true. Face to face interactions IRL tend to reaffirm one's faith in humanity, which of course is immediately undermined the moment you glance at any comments section on social media. However, people talk about how Twitter has turned people toxic, but I remember the forums on the old Visordown in the early noughties, before VD was taken over by TWO, after which the suits insisted on the discourse being somewhat sanitised and it was like the Wild West. People would regularly end up issuing one another death threats over such contentious issues as whether you should or should not use daytime running lights or whether it's possible to wheelie a shaftie. Good times! :yum
