Went to a Konoba, a traditional Dalmatian eatery, owned by our hosts at the Airbnb Four courses of fabulous local caught seafood and a bottle of local wine all on the house. The owners had built the little eccentric restaurant themselves and decorated it with fishing memorabilia and this which was snagged in their nets and hauled aboard It’s from WW11 British fighter plane shot down over the Adriatic
Resurrected my old Ibis HD3 so that my brother can come out on it next weekend when he visits . Tubeless rim tape needed replacing (messy pita) & it looks like the new valves are chinesium shiet as they are leaking at the presta valve. Test ride had the chain skipping on smaller cogs , wear check says it’s over stretched /worn out . Got a new chain and tubeless valves coming today. Hopefully cassette is ok though I have a nearly new spare on standby.
Went there last year - quirky little place. Some of the bike prices are eeer, optimistic shall we say…?
Went to Silchester to see the remains of the Roman city. Walked for miles, so had to round it off with a Sunday lunch in a local pub. Ordered a bowl of pigs in blankets for Zoey, she’s out for the count now!
The spare seat i had re done wasnt quite how I wanted it. But being unable to get down to the upholster with the bike and have it done properly with what I wanted, I knew I'd probably have to tweak it a bit myself. So I've removed the cover and marking up what I want to do. Currently it forces you to sit forward and not allow any movement back. Already taken some out in this pic to flatten it but a bit more is needed. Excuse the step up caked in plaster..
One of those depressing maintenance times...... the SXV fights me every step of the way.... For whatever reason the front wheel (Spoked) had decided to start to leak (3m tape failed for whatever reason) - 5 attempts to get it to re-seal. Finally got it sealed - took it to work the next day and ran over a bit of a stanley knife blade on the way (the rear)....the blade had manager to slice through about an inch of the tyre without going through to the inner but enough for it to loose pressure so on taking the tyre off - no puncture hole...took pot luck and applied a patch (the proper internal bung) which didnt fit....coupled with the fact its a pain in the arse to blow the seal out on (had to take it to the local garage last time) and even they said they had to "max it out" to get the seals to blow. So, like clockwork, couldnt get the seals to blow out...down to the tyre fitters...they did...but the puncture was still there... Took pot luck and put a sticky strip through, sealed but then the tape started to leak, took one side of the tyre off to retape (and then cover with gaffer tape to protect) - puncture still there, tried another strip but its fucked.... 200 miles out of a tyre and its now in the bin....S23 on order. Cunt. Also had a problem with the front end on the Zed dragging. Cleaned the calipers up - all moving freely...front bearing are starting to go so got those on order....my bearing press only take up to 17" so i gotta take the tyre off to do that job....this sunday is going to be busy...
caught a second squirrel in the loft, I couldn't even remember how to reset a Fenn trap. I need to get on the woodwork skills and patch a big hole up.
Just received a call to say friend of mine died today. Cancer of the spine doesn’t give you much time. RIP Steve.
The squirrel made a big hole? It must have grown after eating all those nuts you mentioned earlier in the year!
Very sad news, and sorry for your loss. Life changing events can happen so quickly, its always important to make time to do all the things you enjoy whilst you can. I certainly take that attitude as much as its possible these days.
Possibly the last bike meet for me in 2025 tonight. More there than I expected due to the Blue skies.
