Multi 950s Fan Problem

  1. Hi all,

I noticed the other day on a long ride that the engine temp was getting up to around 110 whilst sat in traffic, in England, in the autumn with an OAT of about 17 deg C. I wanted to check the fan when I got home but during the 4 hour ride home I completely forgot about it.

It has just had its MOT today and the guy that did it mentioned that the fan isn’t kicking in. I’ve looked in the handbook but it doesn’t say which of the fuse boxes the fan fuse is in. Can anyone offer up some suggestions? Could it be the fuse, the relay? I know the temp sender is working because I’m getting a figure on the dash, so could it be the switch that triggers the fan that’s at fault? Thought I’d try and check the fuse first and go from there. I do have a one year Ducati warranty but the nearest garage is 90 minutes away so thought I’d try and fix it myself first if it’s a simple fix.

  2. Should be a thermo switch to operate the fan as well as the temperature sender for the dash and ecu

  3. I wonder if that’s the problem then. According to the handbook, if the temp sender isn’t working then I wouldn’t get a readout on the dash. All that would be displayed is a series of dashes. So the fact I’m still seeing a figure would lead me to think the temp sender is ok, but most likely the thermo switch is faulty. Do you happen to know if there is a fuse for the fan because I can’t see it listed in the manual?

  4. I would see if your bike has a fan relay. If it does then change it. A cheap part as well.

  5. Think it may be the relay 11 on the wiring diagram at the back of the owner’s handbook.

  6. I might be mistaken. Looks like there is a fused relay for the fans (which also does the USB and 12v socket so you might check if those are working). Fan run signal is from the ecu
Just seen @chrisw post and agree check relay 11

  7. I had the same problem on my Monster ,it turned out to be corrosion at the back of the fuse holder ,
