  1. No, he'll be miles away from home with no money in his pocket and no bike.

  2. Suggest a meet halfway to discuss his purchase? If it happens the guy is genuine or at least you can judge whether he is?

  3. as said, it's a definite Walk Away as it stands. If you agree to his "terms" he will almost certainly pick over the bike and offer you less etc on arrival, and i think i would even put this to him.

  4. Wouldn’t bother me. I’d have been there and back by now. If I’d the slightest inkling there was an ambush in the post, I’d have done a precautionary drive by. Maybe…

  5. So there you have it, all of the contradictory advice you may have anticipated. Sell it, don’t sell it. Deliver it, don’t deliver it. Walk away, don’t walk away.

    follow your gut, stay safe

  6. Agreed. If you’re slightly suspicious of anything, good obs are your friend. Maybe a couple of sneaky pictures prior to walking up the drive. Now crack on…

  7. follow your gut, don't follow your gut ? exceptionally helpful post ^

  8. Ask yourself who has a few thousand in cash these days?
    Pikeys, Drug dealers and Fraudsters.
    The latter being fake 50's
Also people from Pakistan and Bangladesh but they don't call themselves Simon
Although Pikey's live in Caravans they tend to have an address in a fixed location postal address for stuff like insurance etc. If you visit the address looking for a particular person then all you'll get is blank looks.
Opinions Based on Many years as a Finacial investigator.
Most people save their hard earned or sell something or get a bank loan
Of course people do pay cash if the seller asks for it
If I were you I'd give this guy a miss

  10. In my opinion unless it’s a bank transfer, I would personally walk away, sound dodgy to me.

  11. Get over there and knock firmly on his door. But first of all get some cam cream slapped on. And a fkn big bowie knife between yer teeth… he’ll crap himself. He’ll hand over the cash and not even want the bike. Result!

    Probably.

  13. Truth is: it could go well, or pear-shaped. Probably 50:50. But why put yourself through it. He has transport, so come to you.

  14. Well...

In the current climate when bike sales are not as common/ quick as we would all like, perhaps there is a compromise?

Has one of your mates got a van and you could both go and drop off the bike? Failing that a mate to follow you in a car to get you home? I would insist -non negotiable- that the delivery was paid in advance @ £1 p/mile.

I wouldn't blow off a sale in a hurry right now, and I would certainly do the above in your place. I have no issues about people paying in cash nor accepting it, get a pen if you are worried about fake notes?

    Good luck whatever you decide.

    PS.
Your mates van (or car) could have a cam (sat nav) in it if you are really worried for £60 from Carpuride which would be yours to keep...

  15. More people than you think!

  16. A fake note pen is indispensable if selling for cash. :upyeah:

  17. I fell for similar many years ago. The thing is when someone starts off taking the piss they tend to keep going. I rode the bike over 100 miles to deliver, then when i arrived asked to take is round to a mates so that he could check it over. Then they renegotiated the price.

  18. With cash you'd need to take a UV-device to start to distinguish genuine mullah..

    Walk away

  19. He sent this earlier

I'm sorry you feel that way.We have brought a few bikes for my friends collection and had them delivered for an agreed cost and payment in pound notes. The bikes we have now are ducati 748, a repsol fire blade and both of them in the living rooms. I will have a chat with my friend and see if there is any way we could come and collect it.Simon

I told him I was wasn't happy, hence the sorry you feel that way, and would cancel if we couldn't sort something. I've offered:

    1. Him pay the cash into his bank account and transfer me the money, then I will deliver for nothing (company Disco commercial so free fuel, I have a trailer)

    2. Him come to me if he can't organise transport, look at bike, pay me cash (I'll get a pen), we'll sort V5 etc here, then I will deliver, again FOC

He says he's never done a bank transfer so not keen (sounds familiar), going to try and get a mate with a van.

  20. Walk away, anyone that goes on a meandering story is BS’ing you.

A buyer wanted to pay me in cash, I got out a UV lamp and after counting around 20 notes of which half were fake they bolted without the goods, leaving the cash including a few genuine notes.
