Not sure where this thread belongs, but building a timber frame garage for my bikes and clutter, will post updates here, cost etc , if anyone is interested, foundation concrete pour today, foundations overly deep due to the crap they found buried once they started digging
That's bigger than my current house that was built in 1956. It is however only about a third the size of my garden Andy
I'd be very interested to know the cost to build actually. I am just finishing a self build house. No money left to build a garage but we do have permission for a double so it might happen sometime.
Ground works completed and sole plate secured to the blockwork with 60cm stainless threaded bars ( 19 off), all being well, crane Friday to lift the heavy beams into position, already done a test erection of the vertical timbers. All seems to go together nicely
So far I can thoroughly recommend the kit I've bought, it's not going to be cheaper than a block built garage ( I was quoted £600/sq m for that, so 60sq m would have been c £36k, it's going to be close to that but definitely not less
Looking to move shortly. Well, house is on the market and partner has a buyer for her flat so sort of committed. Ideally looking for somewhere that already has a garage but building one is a possibility if we find somewhere that ticks the boxes otherwise, so this thread interests me. Costs and planning issues especially, though I think they come under permitted development in most cases.
Garage envy.....Ours is integral, great for a dry moisture free garage but stuck with its size and being a 1960's bungalow I could almost touch both walls either side. (I exaggerate a little, I'm not an Orangutan, but you certainly wouldn't fit a car in there). When we bought the place and swmbo decided to knock through and divide the back half into a utility room she took the Swedish Lagom philosophy of just enough, and there is just enough room to fit my bike in it now
Permitted development upto 30sq m, over that need planning, the company I used produced the planning drawings for £400, and the £400 was taken off the price if I proceeded with an order once planning was approved
