Surely consideration by a Ducati employed design individual of a supermoto version of the 450MX would be quickly knocked on the head by senior management as it would directly compete with the Hyper698, no? Also, as these are designed as competition bikes does anyone have any idea of service schedules? I’m assuming they are akin to other MX bikes, ie a complete engine rebuild every XX hours of running
If its anything like the Yam and KTM models its a piston every 20 ish hours but we as 'normal ' rider near double that . But the trouble ive seen in people changing a MX bike to a supermoto is the the gearbox and clutch always being the weak link which when you consider its going from loose soil to a basically fixed link of tarmac its not surprising. Its got alot more to deal with !!
There was or is a YouTuber who did a conversion from hours to miles for a KTM 500 exc-f, from memory the service intervals weren't crazy bad. If you bought one it's only really going to be a short blast down to the local bike meet and a short blast occasionally rather than a serious mile muncher like a Hyper can be. As you say there's not a chance that Ducati release a SM version of the MX in the same way that KTM haven't. Only Suzuki with the DRZ 400 have a off roader turned into a SM and that's a Dual Sport really not a MX bike.

Looking at these a couple of weeks ago at Ducati Preston. Fantastic bit of kit. Love a road going version.
"Light revvy & fun!" I have to agree, mine is a close cousin of these and riding it is purely for grins. I was at the Potteries Motor Co yesterday and the lads there are very happy that the KTM episode is all resolved, parts supply back to normal, and looking to the future. They're a good bunch of blokes too.

Noticed there was a 450 enduro version on display at eicma. No doubt competition level so I presume service intervals in hours not miles. A bit much for the everyday man?

No doubt you could extend the 25 hrs depending how you ride, but it's still grief you don't need. And would it effect the warranty if not done at the recommended time.Not that warranty has worried me in the past.Altered many parts of a bike before the warranty expires.This is a new engine though.
My mistake, it’s not an engine rebuild every 25 hrs. It’s a piston replacement every 45hrs and a complete engine rebuild every 90 hrs - so that’s ok then . For anyone who’s interested here’s the service schedule. The warranty period is just 3 months or 20hrs of engine running time for the off-road only competition version and 6 months or 40 hrs engine running time for the road legal EDS enduro version just announced. With such short warranty times, and on the basis the engine is supposed to be rebuilt with new components every 90hrs I suppose there’s an argument, if it were only used for a bit of fun and not ridden in anger in competitions, that one could just ignore the warranty and ride it, with regular routine servicing eg oil and valves, until it goes pop ( if it ever does).
