916 Electric Issue

  1. Good evening,

So long and short of it, did my belt change on the 916 so only removed the petrol tank, battery and tray, starter solenoid and rectifyer. Put it all together tonight and when I turn the key no lights come on the dash (battery neutral etc) the fuel pump primes as normal.. but when I hit the starter nothing.. anyone have any ideas? I thought the battery might not be 100% but then you wouldn't get the pump going..

  2. Do you hear the solenoid click?

  3. No click or anything.. but would the solenoid affect the neutral light and the main batt light?

  4. IMG_5748.jpeg i don't know why it should correspond with the work you have just done necessarily. but i would check all relevant connectors, relay connectors and fuses for continuity to start with, it only takes a tiny amount of surface corrosion to stop a circuit flowing (as you well know). I'm not sure there's an obvious route to take from your symptoms, but others might suggest more. I know people have re-seated the chip in your ECU and cured similar, and i had similar (but not identical) electrical failures due to internal corrosion on a 748 ECU.

  5. It will be the little white connector in the back of the solenoid has popped out

  6. but no lights on dash?..

  7. Check the barrel connector to the top right of the where the battery is. Disconnect it and see if any of the terminals are sitting low relative to the others, reconnect firmly

  8. Fuel pump is on different circuit to dash lights and start switch, possibly plug above battery, if connections look good on starter solenoid give it a gentle tap with something non conductive.

  9. exactly this - i don't think this is a starter solenoid connection problem, unless you coincidentally have two faults occurring at the same time.

  10. Yellow main power relay. It has 2 circuits so it's possible just one fails so you'll still have some things working. Replacements are quite easy to get but they're not your generic 5 pin relay. It's has to have 2 pins 87 and NOT 1 pin 87 and 1 pin 87a.
You can find them on Amazon.

  11. That is a possibility when things get disturbed?

  12. Right checked all fuses and all ok, striped down the battery box and cleaned all connectors on the relays and solonoid, put back together and have power to the starter, she starts also, so belt job I did was good.. only thing now I see, is when turning the power on before I actually start the bike, I get no battery light on the dash, I guess I should? Neutral light is green and clocks are lit up also

  13. Great progress! :upyeah: Others will confirm, but i remember some models in 916/748/996 group didn't have a generator light on dash as standard.

  14. It also depends on your reg/rec. If it's an aftermarket one there's every chance it doesn't have the battery light function.

  15. Well done! Nice easy fix... so far? Did the battery light work before?

  16. If in doubt keep an eye on the battery, voltage and charging etc.
