  1. Another one here, my Disco 5 is a bit under the weather at the moment, but it really is the most comfortable thing to wait in to be rescued. It is great, never gets stuck, copes with all sorts of conditions, tows 3.5t (plus!!) easily, perfect(ish).
I know not cars, but have to say for what you pay I was impressed with some of the chinese stuff at the bike show. Would struggle to have one though as I'm too much of a label queen!

  2. Get one bought. Give us updates.

  3. I was also impressed by a lot of the Chinese bike specs considering the prices; what I also liked was the fact that everything on the bike was included in the price or was clearly defined as an extra, unlike some stands where the bike you were looking at was up specced but the standard price was listed. I'll exempt BMW from that as they showed 2 clear prices, base model & as displayed with a clear list of extras & prices. Certain other manufacturers take note.

  4. As part of my research I've also investigated insurance costs and I can get the same cover as I have now cheaper.........not by much but cheaper nonetheless.

  5. I've now also spoken to several people I know in the motor trade (including major brand dealer principles) and they are certainly worried by Chery's aggressive pricing policy to capture market share. They seem to think the Chinese have got their act together on servicing costs and also parts costs too.

Arnold Clark have set their stall out to be the major dealer of Chery marques in the UK and are currently investing millions in revamping/expanding their showrooms too.

I really am trying to find a downside other than the butt ugly front grille and so far I cant see one.

  6. I would only worry about spares availability.
But of course if they are reliable then that doesn't really matter.

  7. Supporting the brutal communist regime and their appalling human rights violations?
How’s that for a starter for ten?

Get yourself an Alfa, stop messin about.

  8. 7 year warranty says they must be confident in their product........and I'd not keep it that long as I'd be PCP'ing it (first time ever!)

  9. Awww fuck...........I was gonna get a Chinese takeaway tonight too :(

  10. I’ve been thinking about the spare parts thing.

Bodywork aside, I wouldn’t think they’d need much aside from brakes and tyres?

    Am I being over simplistic?

  11. You're probably over simplifying it but funnily enough the sales guy mentioned this evening that the brake pads are the same spec as those used by Peugeot, so are readily available.

  12. I don’t doubt this. But when a battery comes off plateau, it can drop off quite dramatically.

What are the service costs/intervals on an EV??

  13. Various snippets from Jaecoo 7 reviews:

"Some reviewers found the ride disappointing, with the car failing to settle over bumps. The petrol engine is also described as under-whelming and the transmission laggy."

"There can be significant wind and road noise on the motorway, with the large door mirrors cited as a possible cause."

"The large touchscreen is often criticised for its complex and poorly designed interface, requiring multiple inputs for simple tasks."

"Elsewhere, the suspension and standard 19in wheels, which are tuned to UK roads, do a good job of masking small road imperfections. However, anything more than that, and the J7 is surprisingly unsettled. This isn’t helped by the steering, which is very light and devoid of feel. We then moved on to the four-wheel drive version, and our driving impressions are largely the same. There is more grip, but the ride is noticeably more unsettled than the two-wheel drive version."

"Disappointing to drive – especially the SHS plug-in hybrid, unimpressive running costs, interior quality does not hold up to scrutiny"

"The regular petrol one only creates 145 horsepower and takes more than ten seconds to haul itself from 0-62mph. If you’ve got time on your hands and don’t like the look of the weather, there’s a four-wheel drive version which is even slower."

"But the driving experience – from the awful steering to the harsh ride and odd powertrain stutter – is miserable, and the user interface is an over-complicated mess. No matter the on-paper value of the car, these are issues likely to grow more, rather than less, frustrating with time."

Given that as motorcyclists we look for an enjoyable riding experience, I don't see this providing an enjoyable driving experience, and thus being something of an anathema; it certainly would be for me.

  14. I'm amazed at the shite people will ride/drive just so they think they've bought something new and flashy. Reminds me of the "Mug's Eyefull" approach Alan Sugar used to take with his Hi-Fi equipment from Amstrad back in the 80s. What kind of a world are going to be living in 50 years time if this is where all our money is going?

  15. bit harsh. maybe? it could just as easy be about folks going for bang for buck as anything else.
i think it would be taking quite a risk buying something like that as a long time keeper. but with a guaranteed buyback price with a reasonable monthly rental and no 200ml round trip to the dealership, feck it, why not.
buying any new vehicle as a keeper is a gamble. there are v,few Jim Ratcliffes at management level in the motor trade so personally speaking, i would be more inclined to have an informal chat with somebody from reception than those tasked with shifting units. also, asking as tech/mechanic for advice on purchasing new maybe isn't such a great idea either. a few years in the trade turns one into a v,grumpy boy. they're aww shit.
    chortle.

  16. Based on that, they sound shite! But I’m old enough to remember Datsuns hitting the UK market in the mid seventies and the savage slagging off they got! Jap scrap being the catch phrase of the time. My dad bought one, very uncool and I remember getting heaps at school about it :D

But once they sorted out the rusting issues, they kinda grew comfortably into the market- look at Skoda’s now. Not too shabby at all but it was a thick skinned lad/lass that bought one in the eighties…

@finm as you know, I’ve just got a Transporter (6.1 late MY late 22). I’m reading horror stories regarding EGR/add blue problems. It’s just about out of factory warranty now. Should I EGR/add blue delete and remap? Or stop being a fkn tart and read less horror stories. Love the van btw :D

  17. If i had known more about AD Blue when i bought my second hand Mercedes last year i would not have touched it. The issues started within 2 weeks and the dealer i bought it from, or rather his 'expert' , was not up to the task.
There is a minefield of issues with this stupid technology once it starts to go wrong, and it will.
I eventually had a nice chap come and take a look at the mapping. lo and behold all my Ad Blue issues went away.

  19. Haha. Yeah. My best mate’s dad had one in the early 80s, when they were still rear-engined and built in a Czechoslovakian Soviet era tank factory. Apparently the Communist Party big wigs in Moscow wouldn’t give Skoda permission to build a front engined model as such cutting edge technology would make them more advanced than Russian cars.:bucktooth:
