Tire And Wheel Change Question...

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Bonkers the Dog, Dec 1, 2025 at 8:06 PM.

  1. So Ive got me a '25 Rally and it is that time for a back end clean and refurb with a new tire to make her look nice.

Question - regarding these fancy tubeless wheels with the external spoke ends, can any tire place do em or is there a special Ducati way for which one must pay a pint of ones' first born's blood?

    Cheers in advance Komrads

  2. Should not be any different to change, spoked wheels are meant to repairable in the middle of nowhere, hence being on Rally, GS's etc.

  3. Yah, I hear you, but it's a Ducati, so I am expecting some exotic tool requirement, years of meditative zen like training and a cost attached!

  4. If you have already used a reputable and trustworthy tyre fitter on previous bikes, it’s no more complicated than any other wheel mounted in a double sided swing arm. Andy

  5. Agreed, it shouldn't be an issue to have them changed.

When I was trying to find somebody to change the tyres on my 1260 Enduro only one of the probably 10 places I contacted were worried about doing the spoked wheels with spokes 'outside' the tyre wall, and I think it was more likely they were just busy.
The problem I always have round here is getting somebody to do it in less than a couple of weeks time.

  6. Do it yourself, it's easier than a push bike tyre

  7. I know, I really must get around to buying the kit recommended on here, I know I'm more than capable of using it.

  8. Decent bead breaker is the key

  9. Use a bunch of big zip ties to fit the new tyre, it's a doddle, youtube is your friend ;-)

  10. Zip ties ?!

  11. I just googled this and yes the use of cable ties seems to work very nicely.

  12. Eeech. A few years ago I bought a manual tire changing rig, soap and weighs, the whole enchilada. At the time I had eight bikes in the fleet, couldn't get the fecker to work properly, almost gave masel another hernia, the bad back didn't help either; I don't think the neighbours were too impressed with my big steamin' red coupon and foul language as I set about the bloody thing with a tire iron and the old faithful steel toe capped ned bashers!
Sold it on gumtree a few months later.

My usual fitter, shout out to the crew at RJ Strangs in Irvine, literally do my bike tires for sweeties! The manager never charges me and I pay them in Cornettos, or a wee piece of folding in the Crimbo fund; an equitable arrangement I feel.

Mind you their core business is HGV and heavy industrial stuff so I think they do mine just for a wee laugh!
