I’m afraid it’s all going the other direction. Next year will be interesting with the new hybrid lumps. It all depends on which team gets to grips with it first. Back in 2014 it was Mercedes by a country mile. Took nigh on 10 years for everyone to catch up.
Its unfortunate that Lewis has put himself in a very difficult position, at this point in his career. LeClerc has thrashed him throughout the season, the car doesn't seem to work for Hamilton's style, and Ferrari as a team don't seem able to bring the consistency needed to get results. Last season coming up, hopefully a better one for him, but I'm not expecting much.
Not sure I understand this. Hes driving a Ferrari in the twilight years of his career (albeit not their greatest model historically) and getting paid a very large sum of money to do so. Did he have better options? Genuine question.
In his shoes I imagine I would have stayed at Merc. Toto understands him, the factory understands his driving style, they have an enormous history, and they would have given him whatever he wanted for this year to prevent him maybe going to Ferrari and moving his sucess aura to team red (it was rumored to be an offer of £100million). He could probably also have become their brand ambassador blah blah guy. Instead he gambled. Would have been a dream if it paid off but here we are. Lewis is soundly beaten by his team mate, with a totally awful season & was lucky Antonelli didn't beat him in the standings, as a rookie, in his old car. Lewis looks broken and his press releases make it worse. No glory, just sad. It was brave to take the risk. But it might also be described as foolish.
Overall Russell scored 20 odd points more than Lewis. Russell wiped him at quali, but lost in fastest laps. They were close imo. Though its fair to say quali had always been a strength of Lewis's career, so he should have seen the writing on the wall?
Maybe he should go to a smaller team if he wants to continue in f1. Hardly like he needs the cash is it. Alonsos 4 years older than him and seems to get a lot less negative noise and expectations. Quite the opposite and with a lot fewer world titles to his name!
I think comparisons with Alonso are tricky. Alonso is universally believed to regularly drive his car beyond its limits. That is not what most people say about Hamilton currently, for good reason. Alonso made several awful career decisions regarding teams and Lewis made one spectacularly brilliant one.
I still maintain a brilliant driver which is kinda obv, but, McClaren - Mercedes - Ferrari, yes today’s Ferrari is a bit of an Italian Migraine of a design but when you’ve a French Le cock teammate beating you week on week? You could give Alonso Senna or Schumacher a poor car but, you can guarantee they will ride th e wheels off it to beat the next man out there, Villeneuve Gillies, need i say anymore..? Hamilton will retire and be appearing on that TV series with the Speedo wearing Olympian knitting dresses and hot pants soon anyway ..
Helmut Marko leaves RedBull F1 team after 20 years As Horner was sacked and Newey already resigned, all the top dogs responsible for RB's incredible sucess in F1 are now gone. Between the 3 of them plus Vettel & Verstappen RB are -jointly with Mercedes- the most successful F1 team of the modern era. Of course Dietrich Mateschitz who set the team up died in 2022 which some say led to the start of the changes... It will be interesting to see how well they do next season with a totally clean slate. The main issue will be that if Max is not provided with a well performing car, he can also walk at the end of 2026. Bt the way RB lost their engine supplier too. If they do well it will be impressive.
