Over the years I've run the gamut...Instant, Nespresso pods, French Press Cafetière, Filter, Senseo... Currently using the Aeropress...which I find really good for flexibility...you can do water temperature, coffee volume, brewing time, produces consistantly good results. So...how do you make yours?
I buy beans from Monsoon Estates. I grind them and brew using a bog standard cheapo coffee maker. I have given up on anything flash as it will eventually break and end up in the bin. I find that I would rather spend out on the beans and just use cheap, replaceable shit to make the coffee. I have wasted too much time on shit that breaks! We now live in a World of "chuck it" rather than repair!
One shot of nespresso first thing usually re -starts the heart. French press/ cafetière at the weekends for a more enjoyable, less rushed brew. The aeropress looks good, top tip for a crimbo pressie!
Another vote for Sage machines, had mine for a few years (less built in grinder) and as long as every few months you descale it properly, it is excellent. Probably my favourite bit of kit I have is a very old Delonghi burr grinder, not sure if they make them any more but it's very consistent and you can really fine tune the coarseness. I'm a big fan of the Aeropress too, often take one with me when travelling. I don't mid a French Press either, cannot stand filter coffee though, too easy to make something that tastes like weak piss. Don't laugh, but Costco Espresso beans are my current go-to daily brew, their house blend is OK too.
I just use a standard delonghi espresso machine. When it's ready, I draw it into a syringe, through a wad of cotton wool, and inject it into a vein in my groin.
At home I use Lavazza Rosso ground, or Illy if I'm feeling flush or it's on special offer. Have ground my own in the past, life is too short frankly. This goes though a stainless steel Moka Pot I bought from Homesense. Milk I heat in the microwave and froth using a Bodum Latteo jug. Sugar is Golden Granulated that sits in a sealed jar with a chopped up vanilla pod, the vanilla lasts a good 6-9 months of infusing multiple refills of sugar. One of the daily pleasures and a calming ritual that shouldn't be rushed... Prior to meeting Janie, my partner, four years ago I used to make the coffee in a French Press. She introduced me to using a Moka Pot which is far superior. Nespresso is the reserve of holiday lets for me, only of use when away from home as source of a halfway decent coffee. I usually have a stock of a few in the cupboard that I pack when heading off on holiday and bring replacements home for next time.
Put tea bag in mug. Add boiling water. Brew. Splash of milk. Drink. Tea is the nirvana for which you search.
Flavour is a touch rounder/smoother, otherwise similar. I keep my Lavazza in an Illy tin... Oh yeah, Illy comes in a nice tin. I've noted lately that Morrisons have Lavazza Rosso at £4.85 for 250g whilst the twin pack of the same is £11.50... Wasn't long ago that it was £4.25 as a regular price for 250g
Initially I had high hopes for the Millicano, what with 15% 'roast and ground coffee'. But it doesn't really diffuse through the mucous linings.
Perhaps slightly off topic..but the best tea in the world is Yorkshire Tea...and when I'm feeling decadent I'll add a bag of Earl Grey and brew together! Bliss.
Earl Grey is the work of the devil. Yorkshire tea is top. Sainsbury’s red label is a very good substitute.
Has to be whole, full fat milk.. Nescafé Azera is my favourite Instant, let the kettle cool for 5 minutes, big heap spoon of coffee with whole milk, it’s not bad at all..
