I have a potential buyer for my Diavel, he did ask if the bike had had its rear brake recall done, to which I had no answer. There is nothing in the service book about it and the previous owner didn't mention it (I'm the 5th owner). Put the vin into a free online check and it came up with no live recalls for my bike. Do I assume it has been done? anyone else had this issue? I don't want to give the buyer wrong info. Also, tell me I'm not mad, all my mates say I'll probably regret it, but I fancy something lighter, more flickable but still a Ducati and still a naked. Anyone else switched? Ta muchly. My bike for attention.
There is no recall on the rear brake as such. There is a technical bulletin that addresses the issue of the rear brake requiring regular bleeding. Not all bikes suffer the problem though. That is why there is no recall or notification of one. If the problem does exist though, and the owner reports it to their dealer, then they can submit a claim to the factory to apply the technical update.
Didn't fancy a 1260 Diavel? Significant upgrade from the 1198 Diavel in spec and handling and more power than the Monster.
I really like the 1260s - tbh budget comes into it as well. I want a lighter more agile bike and I assume the 1260s isn't that? - I also don't think I need 162bhp at 63 years old now. I'm asking £7,200 for mine and for that I can get a nice 2017 with low mileage 1200s - to get a 1260s would mean a bit of finance and with retirement in a couple of years, didn't want to go down that route. I hope I don't live to regret it, but sometimes - you just have to scratch that itch. Also the Monster 1200s is fully Ohlined up front and rear, like the 1260s but a lot cheaper and a bit less expensive to run (tyres for starters)
That's really helpful Nelly - thanks. Explains why it is coming up as recall clear. The buyer is going to speak to a dealer tomorrow so he'll probably say the same. The rear brakes on the Gen 2's are pretty weak - but I think that goes for all of them, good job the front is so powerful.
I thought the power was pretty similar (I realise my monster is an r with 160 ish but...) but the monster is a fair bit lighter which is what the op is after too????
Also Nelly - do you work at Cornerspeed? if so I'll be in touch shortly - the Diavel and the Monster I'll probably get both need the belts change doing (the Monster is 4 years overdue!!) so whether I sell the Diavel or keep it - one or t'other will be in. I've already got the new belts here with me, so it'd be labour only
I'd read the Monster s is 147ish and my Diavel 162ish? not massive admittedly, as the Monster is 20kg lighter? interestingly it has the torque as almost the same - which pleases me as that is what I love about my Diavel - not the top end as I want to keep my licence - but that torque.... I'd love an R, but not many good ones about and the good ones are a grand more than I want to spend, ideally.
Fair enough. You certainly won't get a 1260 for that money. I can see the attraction. A 1200 Monster offers a lot of bike for very little money. It will be lighter, but the 1260 isn't exactly a super heavyweight. What I like about the 1260 is the roomy riding position (once the taller comfort seat is fitted). I've always found Monsters a tad cramped, but that's just my 6" frame and knackered back.
All good points - I think they (1260) look fantastic as well - luckily I'm a 5'9 short arse - so the monster should be spot on for me.
The trump card with the 1260 Diavel is the DVT engine with its mile-wide torque spread. Even better with the Termi pipe and a custom map. The pipe loses about half of that extra weight as well. I'm the same when it comes to power delivery. I rarely find myself chasing the top end anymore (sometimes though..). I want instant shove, everywhere. The 1260 is ace for that, with the top end there as well for when the mood takes you. Actually my standard response to people (and there are a lot of them) who assume that Diavels are cruisers and that owning one will turn you into some sort of Harley-ist, is to say that in fact a Diavel is really a big Monster that's been to the gym and gained a few inches across the shoulders. I think anyone who likes Monsters will like Diavels and vice versa. But the 1200 Monsters are something of an under-the-wire bargain. I could have bought two 1200 S's for what I paid for my 1260 S. Definitely a savvie buy if they fit your frame.
Yeah, always made me laugh when people look at my Gen 2 and assume it's a 'cruiser' - I mean they can be, but a cruiser on steroids - and then some.
I think an X-Diavel can be classed as a cruiser, but only just and only by virtue of having forward controls. I've owned real cruisers, a Rocket 3 and a Harley LRS and the genuine article is a very different dynamic. It's actually quite hard to define. It isn't about power - the Rocket 3 has obscene amounts - more about power delivery. Cruisers aren't necessarily slow (my Harley wasn't and the Triumph certainly wasn't) but for me they should be lazily effortless. When they start egging you on they've crossed a boundary into other biking territory and any Diavel, even the X, will do that every time. Saying that, now my 1260 has had it's Termi fitted and been remapped, it pulls so hard and so smoothly from so low down that you can almost adopt a cruiser mindset on the right day and just thump along lazily enjoying the sound and the occasion. But sooner or later it will goad you.
Yes Perry. It’s my workshop. Give us a shout and I’ll help where I can. We’re already taking quite a lot of bookings so bear that in mind so we can fit in with your plans.
Yeah - hopefully I'm close to selling mine now - as soon as I know which bike I'm bringing in I'll give the shop a call - nice one.
Yeah I messaged him - seemed to get a bit shirty when I asked him what he was looking for, either that or he totally misread my post - so back to the 1200s!
Yeah, I assume so - probably just misinterpreted my meaning. Seemed to think I was offering 7k - I wasn't! just asked what he was looking for. I even said what he was looking for was a fair price for a gorgeous bike. Oh well, never mind. these things happen.
