A question that’s probably been asked a million times……… Best method of fixing a carbon fibre swing arm cover, 3M Dual tape or silicone adhesive? I did use the 3M tape on my BMW S1000rr swing arm covers, it held ok but I always was nervous I’d lose them at speed.
What’s with the disagree? I asked a question, not in anyway offensive or inappropriate, and someone felt the need to click on disagree? Wow, friendly forum then eh.
It's far more likely that somebody was scrolling on a mobile and hit it accidentally. It happens often. You will have a notification of the member that did it you can ask them why by doing what I've just done @Macker It may save some upset
Perhaps Derek has an aversion to sticking carbon stuff all over a bike when it serves no purpose other than cosmetic.
Surely adding to the cosmetic look of the bike is a good enough purpose? If the owner likes the look of carbon? I’ve never understood the argument of carbon is a waste of time and money because it only shaves a little weight off the bike, I agree that the weight saving is minimal but I think the majority of people who swap the plastic for carbon, do it because carbon looks better than black plastic.
I use carbon swingarm covers as a sacrificial part as my boots always catch the swingarm. Anyway assuming the covers dont have holes (which may require drilling and tapping) i use silicone sealant.
It’s not so much that I’ve taken offence. He may of disagreed by accident, that’s fine, but I’ve never understood the mentality of people on some forums when it comes to questions. I’ve had many cars and bikes over the years and always joined the relevant forums to ask questions and gain knowledge. I’ve seen a lot of established members jumping on the new guy when a question has been asked that maybe had been asked before. The thing is with questions, every question in the world has been asked a billion times and will be asked a billion times more, it’s just people seeking an answer.
It's one of the better forums I've been on, don't worry about it. Also I could not advise on the correct adhesive.
I would use a low modular silicon adhesive (glazing silicon) as if needed ,it could be removed if care was taken ,as a standard silicon etc is a harder product and would be a total bitch to remove your carbon again.
