  1. The "Good hard workers" who want a pay rise obviously do need protection otherwise millions of them would never have organised themselves into Unions. They are the same ones that ensure paid holidays and maternity leave exist too. Oh and banning child workers or do you think that the employers just changed everything of their own free will?

As for the tenants -are they the ones being evicted because their genuine decent landlord refuses to do basic repairs?

  2. There was bad feeling about names like Mitsubishi and Kawasaki on account of WWII. But Datsun not so much.

  4. You get good and bad in all walks of life, doesn't mean you tar everyone with the same brush.
All the employers I worked for looked after the staff very well, in fact with Aviva some of the benefits were too good and employees took the piss.
And what about the good landlords who get screwed over by non paying tenants. So yeah it goes both ways, but it’s only fair you protect both parties which isn't happening.

  5. Nissan manufactured for the Japanese war effort so I’d image that there was the same bad feeling as Mitsubishi etc and why they chose to use the name Datsun for the export market, America in particular.

  6. Well apart from the absurd idea that the government simply changed the law regarding rental property because they were bored here's an excerpt from the research done by Shelter in 2016.

"A 2016 Shelter survey, extrapolated to the wider population, highlighted severe illegal acts:
Over 600,000 renters had their homes entered without permission.
Over 200,000 reported being abused, threatened, or harassed by a landlord.
Over 64,000 had utilities cut off without consent.
Almost 50,000 had their belongings thrown out and locks changed illegally.
Examples of Harassment: Other forms of harassment included withholding keys, demanding money not owed, and using intimidating behaviour.

    Unfair Practices and Discrimination
Demanding Excessive Rent in Advance: Evidence showed landlords demanding large amounts of rent in advance, stretching tenants' finances and creating barriers to accessing housing. The new laws ban demands for more than one month's rent upfront.

Discrimination: There was evidence of landlords discriminating against prospective tenants who had children or were receiving benefits (often referred to as "No DSS" policies). New legislation explicitly bans this practice.
These systemic issues, supported by extensive data and personal testimonies presented to Parliament, demonstrated a need to rebalance power in the private rented sector and led to the introduction of the comprehensive reforms found in recent laws.

I would be interested to hear from you why you feel the Landlords are not being protected? Surely they, like every other business take the correct steps to charge appropriate prices which cover their costs and leave them with a profit? I imagine they are also insured against loss and damage, again as many other businesses.

Good to know that you were treated well at Aviva. Rather different than when a couple of years ago, the entire crews of all P & O ferries were sacked -over 800 people- so that the new owners could pay below minimum wage to foreign agency staff.
