In my last post, I suggested that, and it was suggested that my bike maybe overheating. It runs very hot, to a point where I can feel the heat radiating between me legs!!!! and this is only on my 7 mile commute. What is the point where the rad cooling fan should kick in as I've never seen mine ever come into play? Fuse checked OK.
It could be the fan switch. IIRC it should kick in around 3/4 on the dial. Fire the bike up on yr drive and the bike will soon reach temp and you'll hear the fan come on, or not. You can test the fan by shorting the fan switch out. If it's the fan I have one you can have for not much. Good luck! PS. They are hot to sit on when stationary!
Cornish, the fan should kick in at or around 92c and switch off at 87c, thermostat is supposed to open at 75c. You can check the fan is working by bypassing the switch. The connector is as stated above pretty crap, as with all the electrical connections it is worth separating them, ensuring the contacts are clean, treating them with a contact cleaner and spraying them with something like silicon grease. I had a similar problem over the last year when on those few hot days >75c the engine would start cutting out when driving for long periods in town traffic. It would only run on one cylinder and I got popping in the exhausts on overrun. The atmos pressure sensor in front of the tank had a perished boot which had allowed water into the plug and caused a bit of minor white oxide corrosion to pin 1 of the sensor and a crap connection in the plug. The signal was badly affected and the ECU compensated by leaning the mixture too much.
I have never heard the fan kick in on my 999 ever. In six years. It's got up to 107°c before now. Next service is next week. This time, they better find and fix the problem. I was sitting in a traffic jam in Monaco once and thought the thing was going to explode.
