I too have a fender strat and a Gibson LPj I wouldn't mind shifting. They are both popular and common as dog poo. Too many made and not worth more than I paid for them. On the flip side limited edition rarities can be hard to sell. Wait for the warmer weather then see, Stuiebikes.
There’s no harm in that really. It works for both parties and at least it’s in front of the right audience, and marketed widely via their socials.
I’d say the Honda could sell for a sensible amount, there are a lot of older riders who had one in the past and get a hankering to relive their youth and have the funds to make it happen (I’d probably fall into this group). This explains the crazy values being asked for 70’s and 80’s ‘classics’. Sadly my wife is of the opinion that one bike in the garage is sufficient and if I wanted a classic then the Multistrada would have to go (not happening). Good luck, once you get good pictures and a full history of the bike then I’m sure places like this forum and the Honda owners will be interested or at least be honest if you are asking too much.
Have you seen the price of Yamaha RD 500's lately? Its an age thing. Also a recent auction I attended last year, 90's Motto Guzzis' are on the way up, surprising!
Thanks that might work I'll see what my Dad wants to do. Hopefully he can sell them privately with a bit of a hand.
Thank you I'll wait to see how my Dad gets on with photos etc and go from there I do appreciate all the helpful comments and members here. You never know he might offer me the 998 I read another member who was selling their bike and gave it to their son in the end ha
Good luck, I've not sold a bike since about 1995 - crashed them / traded them in, or just kept them. Not sure how it is with bikes but cars are an effing nightmare with all the parasites and morons that creep out of the woodwork. Last couple of cars I've just run them into the ground and scrapped them / sold them cheap / scrap value to a FB group (Alfa)... I would dread starting to sell some of mine but I might have to think about it soon as in 10 years from now...
Yeah I know what you mean about cars. Same as you try to just keep them running. Can't be bothered with the hassle
Wouldn't go near ebay, for the fees alone. My 2016 Diavel has been up for sale for about 5 weeks on FB marketplace, Ducati pages on FB and I had it on Autotrader for a couple of weeks for 20 quid in the 2 weeks before Xmas. Lots of pictures, a walk around video, as much detail about the bike in the ad as you can possibly think of. Considering it's mid-winter, Xmas etc I have had an awful lot of interest and looks like it's sold for the asking price (lad coming round Wednesday after initial viewing, has put 200 quid down and will buy depending on test ride). I may be biased, but it is an exceptionally nice example of a gen 2 though. I think if the bike is good enough and the price reasonable, it'll sell. Good luck anyway. I should add that doing it my way, you have to deal with a fair few divs who want to scam you or who are just dreamers and can no way afford your bike - as long as you can not let that get to you - the buyers are out there, just a bit more patience required at this time of year and in the current financial climate.
Is your Dad's a Final Edition 998s? These are more desirable as they have the Ohlins forks and some italian flag decals. I have an OG 998s with Showa forks - lovely bike, but worth less than the FE. Also is it a single or dual seat? Genuine single seat models are more desirable (mine had a single seat on a dual seat subframe when I bought it - it came with the original dual seat too - I subsequently bought an alloy single seat subframe).
If the 998s is a sand cast case early model i would mention this in any Ad. It would influence my cheque book if i were in the market for another. Loved the one i used to own. Good luck
As long as you have an idea how much for each of them you could always visit a few bike meets in the spring/early summer and leave a for sale notice on with your number then at least you will be among enthusiasts who potentially are interested or know someone who is and as a bonus have an enjoyable outing.
