V4 Pikes Peak - What To Look For?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by richtea999, Jan 12, 2026 at 5:15 PM.

  1. I'm going to have a look at someone's V4 Pike's Peak tomorrow.
Is there anything I should be looking for beyond the obvious (service record, tyres, chain, sprocket)?

Any electronic gremlins, particular corrosion areas, bits that wear?

    Thanks in advance...

  2. What model year ? The 2024MY (manufactured from October ‘23) onwards has the adjustable flaps in the side pods and the headlight that moves when you turn the steering. The previous model years didn’t as standard. Nice to have the set of radiator guards, nice to have the carbon options, nice to have PPF. There are a variety of seats, good to know which one is fitted. Luggage would be good, an adaptor plate is required for the top box as are location spigots for the bottom of the pannier. IMO, the metal panniers are better for space if you travel with a partner. I have engine bars fitted which have saved the bike in a stationary lay down and I have the bigger engine sump plate. I’m not a fan of the full race system, even with baffles fitted, it’s loud. Hardest bit is to keep the bike clean, the nooks and crannies vacuum up the grit and shit. Not on the V4 PP as far as I know but Ducati OE Ōhlins seals have been known to leak. The quick shifter should be slick, periodic running of the on-board tyre calibration set up is advised. The electronic suspension is firm for UK roads, even on the softest setting. At about 240kg wet, it feels heavy moving it around the garage, feels quite top heavy. Getting it on the centre stand is technique but being built like a brick outhouse helps. Andy

  4. Glad you've found one to look :upyeah:
Andy has covered most above, I've fitted the closable flaps, were about £50 in parts, they make a big difference in the cold/ wet.
All that has gone wrong with mine in 23k miles is the quick shifter failed (they aren't the best but work fine), replaced under warranty. Warranty is 4 years from when registered if you didn't know.
looking at our previous conversation you are un-naturally tall ;) so will be fine getting on the stand and moving it about, you will need the high seat on the high setting.

    Good luck with it

  5. I recently parted company with my 22 plate PP, with 40k miles, ridden in all weathers, 2 up 60% of the time, but well maintained and cared for, probably benefited from ppf from day 1. Only issues I've had since new are: the battery failed at under 2 years old, (meanwhile my 1260S battery is nearly 8 years old and still going strong ) Ducati replaced it under warranty, also found some corrosion on the lh rear cylinder, it has a plastic cover which is foam backed and retains moisture, noticed this quite early on and soaked the foam in ACF50. I also replaced the discs with Brembo Serie ORO, as a precaution, previous experience with the standard discs wasn't the best, they have a tendency to warp. Thoroughly enjoyed my ownership and the new owner is well pleased too.

    Hope your viewing is successful!

  6. Excellent advice, thanks all.

It's got a '22 plate, so that means no flaps, but it sounds like £50 well spent.

It has a normal box exhaust underneath - I'd rather be stealthy than attract attention. Loud pipes just piss non-motorcyclists off rather than save lives.

No luggage which is a disappointment, but presumably used boxes can be added if the spare lock cylinders are supplied with the bike. I'll be checking that.

Seat is heated, and looks 'normal'. I think there are high seats available, which at 6'5" might be useful, but I can tackle that later. There are two seat height positions anyway, I believe? I'll probably look at a Sargent seat if things aren't comfy.

240Kg - peanuts! Try putting a K1600GT on it's centre stand. (Fun engine, but too heavy for spirited riding. Fab for crossing continents, but not quite as fun as a PP in the mountains.)

Is the 4 year warranty standard on a '22 PP? In Ducati blurb it looked like a 2 year + optional 2 year warranty, but it isn't clear what the option was driven by - maybe full servicing, etc.

  7. High heated seat is really comfy
    Warranty is standard

  8. Thanks Andy - how do you identify a high seat in a photo?!
And anything on the seat like a part number?

  9. The high and low heated seats have Multistrada V4 in white and a green and red stripe embroidered on them, standard height doesn't ( I think)

  10. Ah, no stripe on this one, and no button-looking thing on the pillion seat either, just plain plastic.

  11. Button looking thing is the heated seat controller for the passenger. No warm bottoms for you folks :)

  12. If you like box luggage look at the SW Motech range . I use the pro frames with the aluminium boxes as the frames are removable so to stop your bike looking like a scaffold carrier when not yard. Not cheap but work so well .

  13. Best thing to do with the water pump cover is to remove the foam completely, it’s only there to try and help with noise levels.

  14. Assume you mean on the 1260 , that was the dealer's solution.

  15. Cylinder head cover has foam, I've removed mine
