New Helmet Day

  1. It’s pretty good

  2. New Shoei for me today, first one.
Went for neutral colours so it matches my bike gear and any colour bike.

  3. New lid arrived today - after the delays caused by the recent breezy weather :D

Forced into it because the chin bar on the Shark Spartan is to big and prevents being able to glance down and see the dash on the new bike - can't just glance down, have to look down. I can't be having that, so forced into getting a new lid.

Probably should have got an Arai really, but still like the drop down sun visor function, so went for the Shoei GT Air 3 :upyeah:

  4. "I need a new helmet as I can't possibly look down".
Love it, I'll have remember that one.
    Pretty cool design :upyeah:

  5. I picked up my new Shoei Neotech 3 on Monday, with the mesh comms as well. I’d got an offer on having the personal fitting service late last year at Motoledgends (they were training a new technician and it was free plus a £50 credit for a new helmet). I’d ordered the new red Sharpen colour scheme but when I saw it I wasn’t sure (too much black and odd 1980’s stripes)

In the end I went for the Yellow/white/blue Anthem which is pretty lairy for me!

The custom fitting was interesting, they took measurements of my head then it goes into the computer which predicts the best size and also which additional spacer pads and cheek pads to use (no charge for these). I guess I could have shopped around and saved a few £’s but I thought it was worth paying to get a proper fit.

  6. I do like Shoei’s but they just don’t fit my weird head anymore no matter what I try.

  7. Nothing like a new lid day :upyeah::)

  8. :D https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/small-bike-things-youve-done-today.82554/page-433#post-2291329, #post 8655. Luckily, I’m a large in the Neotech. The GT Air 3 was much more of a faff. Andy

  10. I think it’s a great colourway, you are not going to miss it in a crowd. Andy

  11. The one disappointment for me about my Neotec3 is that the battery isn't sufficient for a full day of riding with Mesh enabled. Maybe they've addressed this, hopefully via firmware (I haven't updated recently). Switching off the mic helps but is a faff. Otherwise I love mine.

  12. Unfortunately not, it’s still inadequate. The new 60S however has addressed the issue and it claims 17 hours. Andy

  13. Worth knowing, so good to give it a boost at coffee and lunch stops.

  14. Interesting. Mate of mine has the Neotec 3 with built in Sena-based comms. I have the Schuberth E2 with their equivalent. On a five-day trip last year we rode a couple of 7-hour days without issue.

  15. Depends very much on what you have paired, 7 hours is about the limit. I eek out a bit more time by not pairing the headset with the sat nav and the phone. Andy

  16. You never see anything new by way of helmet design these days no offence to those positing their new lids.

  17. Paired using Mesh or just the regular Bluetooth comms? With just two riders Mesh looses it's main 'net comms' advantage. Using just Bluetooth we found that there wasn't an issue with battery life. With more riders you're stuck with shorter range rather than the daisy chaining you get with Mesh.

Whilst not ideal; carrying a power bank and giving the headset a charge during the lunchstop solves the problem. As previously mentioned; switching off the mic helps too. Some sort of VOX mic/recieve switching via a firmware update could be beneficial here. As I understand the main reason for the battery drain is down to constantly transmitting to maintain the Mesh network connection. Though this would likely result in first word clipping.

  18. Paired using Mesh, purely because it's the easiest way to connect in terms of button presses. In both cases, connected to phone only. No satnav unit involved.

We also tend to ride constantly connected (voice channel open), even if we're not talking.
