  1. I got my new bike in thailand december 2025. I did my first 1000km oil service. Today, January 20,2026, i have 5006km and there is no oil in the reservoir looking port. Also a rattle around the gas tank at low rpm and anytime driving over bumps. At dealer today in pattaya. Anyone have oil burning issues with this motor? I had a mts pikes peak 2014 and never needed to add oil. Im concerned! What are my options? Your thoughts welcomed

  2. I'd be wondering whether they put in the correct amount of oil in the first place. I've had this on various bikes, Triumphs and KTMs as well as my Ducati. My KTM for instance takes 4.4 L to fill to max. But the oil comes in 4L bottles, which will take levels into the safe zone in the sight glass but not up to max.

When I bought my 1260 Diavel the dealer I bought it from serviced it before the sale and after about 1500 miles I'd had a Termi pipe fitted and took the bike for a custom remap. The dyno shop rang me to say there was no oil in the sight glass. They topped it up with the correct oil (about a third of a litre). I've kept a careful eye on it since (another 1500-2000) miles and it hasn't shifted at all.

I'd top it up and monitor it carefully in exactly the same way each time as instructed by the manual. If it's definitely using oil consult a dealer. But there's a dozen minor things that could cause oil loss without it being burned up.

  3. When you checked was the bike perfectly level on both planes, ie front to rear and left to right? The V4 engines are very susceptible to any incline in either plane giving an erroneous reading.

The other thing is not to check just after a ride. Check the level before a ride after the bike has been standing for a good while* but never just after a ride or just after having the engine run. iirc there are 5 different oil pumps in the V4 GT engine and it takes a good while for the oil to drain back into the sump and be visible in the sight glass.

I’ve the same engine in my Multistrada and it never uses any.

  4. Mine hasn't used any from the 1st service!, however when parked in the garage it was only filled to half way in the sight glass not right up to the full line! I've left it has i will change the oil in Feb when i start using it again.
