Watches

  1. Did this arrive?

  2. Watches,…fkn watches eh?

Have a look at this…Omega Seamaster GMT, had it since about 2009?

    IMG_0140.jpeg

Can the eagle eyed among you tell me what’s wrong with it??
It’s still going, but somethings wrong with it, can you see?
Anyhow, it has to go back to Omega for a full service,….£610 quid :astonished::astonished:!! Nuts! I don’t pay that for a car service!!

So, seeing as it’s going to be away for 10 weeks, it gave me an excuse ( if one was ever needed) to buy another watch….

    IMG_0153.jpeg

Another GMT, this time a Seiko, exactly the same features as the Omega ( automatic, crystal back etc ) but a fraction of the cost , listed at £420, I paid £370 for it, but I’ve seen them as low as £320, absolute bargain if you ask me :upyeah:
Anyhow, that now gave me 3 automatic watches, two of them GMT’s , fine…but what I soon realised was that since I wear them all pretty regularly, it was turning into a bit of a pain every time you picked one up , to shake it to get it going, then set the time, then set the date, then set the GMT hand and I know that you can get automatic watch winders but meh!
So…I thought I need a watch that I can just pick up and it’s already going, already at the right time and doesn’t need any faffing about with, another excuse to buy another watch  !
    Enter yet another Seiko..

    IMG_0150.jpeg

This one is a Prospex, solar powered quartz, no winding, no battery, no constantly setting the time again just slap it on your wrist and go, ..10 months power reserve, so no faffing to get it going, happy days, I’m chuffed with its simplicity and ease of use,..gotta stop spending money on watches  ..sometime

  3. I have one like yours and an "Arnie". Bullet proof and zero service/battery BS.

  4.
  5. Has the little luminous pip/pearl fallen out of the triangle at 12 o clock on the bezel?

  6. I take it that the watch uses a battery? So the service is really a clean, maybe check/replace seals and replace the battery?
Bought mine second hand 11 years ago (as new, still as new..) Worn daily. Got a tame watch specialist in Durham city. £35 inc pressure test with new battery. Granted, I dont go diving, but the watch does get wet when in swimming pools etc.
    Omega specialists take the proverbial..

Nope, this Omega is an automatic mechanical watch, no battery..

  7. Close, …that pip is still ok, it’s the ones at 11 o’clock and 4 o’clock on the watch face that have fallen off, if you look closely you can see them both laying in the bottom of the watch glass at the 6 o’clock position.

Moral of this story is don’t wear your good watch when you’re doing DIY with a hammer drill  !

  8. I noticed the two dots at the bottom but thought it was just a reflection of a single dot or some similar artefact.

Isn’t that a Bond watch btw? You’d think 007 would need one which is a little more robust than that. Back to the drawing board, Q, old chap!

  9. No, it’s not a Bond watch, iirc they have a kind of “ rifle barrel swirl “ background on the face, this one is a Seamaster GMT ( Extra pointer for different time zone ) can’t complain really as I’ve worn it daily for almost 20 years now, knocked and banged it and virtually zero damage to it.
Just the service cost is a bitter pill to swallow, I had it serviced about 9 or 10 years ago and it cost £340 quid then, seems to have gone up a hell of a lot to £610 ,..ah well !

  10. IIRC, the ‘Bond’ franchised watches were either Diver 300’s, Planet Ocean or the Aqua Terra, something like 15 for different films released over the years …… although I’ll stand to be corrected :D Andy

The one on the left is the one I was thinking of

  13. Interesting. When I was introduced to the world of watches, my dad got me to wear it on the inside of the wrist, not the outside (as per Daniel Craig there). Not that dad was ever military (like he called semi-automatic magazines 'clips' - which I belatedly discovered, ie well after he'd died, Mickey Spillane did, which I wouldn't be surprised if that was where he got it from).
Anyway I've worn watches on the inside of the wrist all my life. Besides the bonus of not tipping your drink down your front when someone asks you the time, I believe the practice originated with the SAS (or was possibly just widespread in WWII), the reason being to largely obscure the luminous dial (or perhaps more likely just reflective) in the dark.
Hard to imagine Commander Bond not following the practice.

And yet another film I've never seen (or any Bond post-Connery)

  14. Great choice, the Hanhart. I have a Hanhart 1939 Luftwaffe Replika which I purchased in the early 90’s

  15. Ah, but when Commander Bond is on a clandestine mission, the last thing he would want you to do is signal his military background. Obviously, he often compromises his own cover by announcing himself as “Bond, James Bond” and ordering an idiosyncratic cocktail, but we can just overlook that for the sake of this discussion :D

  16. Point taken!

I did actually think that today he'd have a pistol that was also a mobile phone, but that taking a gun out to answer it would be a giveaway. Plus bystanders would think he was about to blow his brains out.

  17. Thanks mate
Do you have a pic of the Luftwaffe Replica? I’ve become a fan of Hanhart of late.

By the way chaps, I’ve started to reduce the collection, three watches for sale in the classified section

  19. Surely it would be the other way around, and he would have a phone which doubled as a gun? You can already buy one, in America, naturally
