999 tyre wear

  1. I'm getting through rears at an alarming rate, admittedly I'm doing a lot of 2up M'way miles but the rear is squaring off quicker than I think it should and I'm wondering if the suspension is part of the cause, I'm 15st and my girlfriend's 10st. My 999 is a bip so has a heavier spring and I'm on factory settings, with the forks dropped to 4 lines showing. I run 37psi rear 33 front on Pirrelli Diablo with the old style crisscross thread. Any suggestions anyone?(apart from leave the girlfriend at home). thanks Keith.

  2. Buy some new ones. you tight git. Lol. Pirrelli Road Angels

  3. To be honest they do square off as soon as you hit the motorway approach road.

One ride on the motorway and mine start to go off.

I would try and mix in some twisties to keep them fresh. Easier said than done I know.

  4. Had a similar issue with Pirelli, swapped to mich 2 CT in a hope that the central compound is a little harder and will wear better.

Not covered enough miles yet to measure wear, but, happy with grip etc so far.

  5. I found the pirelli diablos even on my little 620 monster squared off quickly too

  6. 2CT very good on the 999

  7. Motorways are no place for a 999

  8. Fast riding can square off the tyre cos of slowing down by only closing the throttle ie not using the brakes enough. Tyres are made 'one way' and the significant displacement and compression of the 999 engine is enough to markedly wear the tyre when the load is decelarative.

  9. Running Dunlop Sportsmarts on my 999S.
Approx 75mi of dual-carriageway per week (out of 200-250mi per week average). I cannot believe how non-squared off my tyres are. Astonishing. They are superb tyres on the twisties and on trackdays, too. I'll keep buying them if they keep making them

  10. Same with SportSmarts. The best all round tyre, IMO.

Rain, road, track, mileage. Ticks all the boxes. I've done almost 1000 miles (lots of motorway, and hardly squared off at all.

  11. Funny you should say that I squared my sets of tyres off before wearing them out!! I used engine braking instead of the brakes quite a bit both rears on my SS squared off
I used DD scrubs on mine
