My 2011 model year Multistrada's heated grips are worn out. The elements still work fine. Has anyone here managed to remove the original rubber and mount a new pair over the original heating elements?
I don't know about fitting new rubber to the grips, but I use Grip Puppies. They are softish sponge grip oversleeves, and I like them because of that and because they are fatter and more comfortable for me. They would do a decent job of extending the life of your grips. https://grip-puppy.com/
Cricket bat grip. I’ve used it on bikes for years, it’s very cheap, cut to size and heated grips work fine. This is the one I use. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/32141649...ehNVdbxITFTi84mKGE1vjxY2vL|tkp:Bk9SR5DYsteIZw
Are your heating elements separate from the rubber grip? I ask because mine aren't. The element is embedded in the rubber grip.
The heading elements are bonded to the plastic sleeve. I did have to double check though as you got me worried.
I bought some cricket bat grip from your link and have just fitted it. Not quite the 'factory' look, but I'm pleasantly surprised with it. I applied it with a healthy smearing of vulcanising solution to get it on easier and hopefully keep it in place. Thanks for the suggestion. I also bought some grip puppies. I opted to try the cricket bat grip in the first instance as I was concerned the foam ones may not conduct the heat from the grips quite as well as the thinner cricket bat grip. I have them in reserve.
Good to see my idea of 14 yrs ago is still helping ppl out, I still use them on my 2016 as did on my 2012 multis and the grips on the DVT are as new 10yrs on https://www.ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/grip-fix.2528/#post-26451
A few years back I fitted a pair of Spider SLR grips to my 1200 Multi. They were sold as a replacement for the OEM rubbers fitting over the heating elements. I don't know if they are still available.
I would definitely recommend Spider grips. Replaced my 1200 multi standard grips with them lots better than OEM
You could buy two sets of grips and use the throttle side from each. For all the price of rubber grips it wouldn't be exorbitantly expensive.
