Dordogne Routes

  1. Does anyone have any good routes in the Dorgogne area? We are staying at Rocamadour for one night before we head to the EMM near Issoire. So looking forward to routes heading East from there, nothing too strenuous as we will have had two long days to get there.

There seem to be a fair selection of Michelin ‘green’ roads to choose from but any recommendations or local knowledge very welcome.

  2. My parents built a house in Cales, about 25 minutes from Rocamadour and the road between the two and then onwards towards Souillac is a beautiful sweeping semi-mountainous route with sublime views across the valley.

p.s. there’s a nice relais in Cales, worth stopping at for refreshment.

Most of the routes around that area are lovely with well maintained roads, perfect riding territory

  3. Yes.

Head to Aurillac.then take the D922 to Ydes. Then take D3 to Murat. Alternatively, just stay on the D922…
Great roads, great scenery. Nothing too technical.
Used to spend a lot of time riding in that area.

If you want to extend it, head to Figeac, then Estaing (12190) then head north on the D920 to Aurillac. Brilliant section of tarmac.

Chuck those options in gmaps for a flavour.

  4. I can give more, or less hints in most directions in that area. Lived close by for 7 years and been on most of the roads around there. Just need an idea of miles and direction :upyeah:

  5. If you’re into smaller back roads with nice sceneries, I can ask my local friends if they wish to share their secret spots with a Brit?

    :D

  7. That looks good. All the better for not being direct, 6hrs though.

  8. 5 hours on my last GS o_O

    worth it imo.

Shorter version attached, misses out on some good roads, but has others. With the benefit of visiting a volcanic lake/volcano or two (dormant, dont worry..o_O).

  9. Another choice!
Includes the Beynat to Argentat section. If chicken strips are not removed afterwards something is wrong.
Fuel at a little Carrefour in Beynat..if needed. Fuel also available in Argentat* …next stop, before the climb out..

*one place I have seen speed traps, at the end of the bridge..
