I've owned a 2004 Sportster, if you don't feel the need for speed and just want to potter around in relative comfort they're ideal. Simple very analogue, easy to work on and are easily personalized. Possibly I'll buy another this year now my kids are fully independent just so me and the Mrs can go places together in more comfort than the Scrambler offers. Touring/Adventure bikes hold zero appeal for us, particularly my Mrs who was dragged up on a diet of British bikes.
Harley Davidson has nothing to do with the Iran war. If you want a better reason to boycott them it should be that their majority shareholder is Blackrock. Which might explain their stunning unforced marketing errors in recent years and their current financial predicament. Inviting Blackrock into your company is like inviting death watch beetle into yourhouse. I'd rather boycott KTM on the grounds it's now a Chindian company that makes rubbish.
I'm after a modern retro as a jump-on-and-go Sunday and summer evening bike. Did consider a Bonnie. Decided on a R nine T now.
Never had a Sportster. I did have a 117" Low Rider S. Parted with it as it killed my back but I'd have another HD. Wouldn'tmind an older 1200 Sportster as a project bike but since they've discontinued them they're holding their money.
Majority Indian owned, engines built in China, chocolate camshafts (among other things). And of course they're making parallel twins, which belong in Honda Superdreams, not KTMs. So as a former 990 V-twin owner I confess to a bit of old-school KTM bias.
No I'm not a great fan of the Triumph offerings. I've owned some of the earlier T3/T5 examples but I much prefer twins to triples.
i feel sorry for the whole Harley Davidson fraternity - regardless of how anyone feels about the brand, the people that work on the assembly line have a passion for the finished item and it's sad to think that this might be coming to an end. There is a massive parallel with Ducati lovers, we want to support the brand "come what may"
AFAIK there is no longer any Chinese connection? Not that I believe Chinese goods to be inferior I hasten to add. There is a great deal of Chinese made sh*te around, but thats down to the dumbass buyers who want something for nothing. Think Chinese made, think Apple.
