Monster/Monster+ Lockstops Issue

  1. Hi,

My bike came with Rizoma handlebars.

While they look nice, unfortunately because the bars touch the tank plastic on full lock, the previous owner has put some bolts in in the bottom yoke to reduce the lock.

As I sometimes ride in the city the reduced turning ability is annoying and I want to be able to turn the bars to full lock.

Anyone had this issue? What is the best way to resolve this? I don't have the original handlebars bars.

    Thanks

  2. Are the bars one piece?

  3. If the bars hit the tank, adjusting the lockstops isn't going to help. Can you rotate the angle of the bars? Or cut a couple of cms off the ends?

  4. So I understand.
Has the previous owner replaced the original lockstop grub screws with longer bolts?

There should be more than enough adjustment in the original screws to take into account the new Bars.

As has been suggested I think you'll have to rotate the bars upwards so the switchgear etc is higher and further forward.

A picture or two would really help.

  5. Yes one piece

  6. Has the previous owner replaced the original lockstop grub screws with longer bolts? It looks like the originals have been replaced but I didn't know it comes with lockstop grub screws from factory.

Anyone got a pic of what the original lockstop grub screws look like?

A picture or two would really help. Good idea I'll put some pics up shortly

  7. I'll try rotating the bars to see if that has any effect. Thanks for the suggestion.

The ends are not an issue.

  8. Here are a couple of pics

  9. That lockstop looks like it has backed out. You set the maximum left to right movement with the threaded part, one on each side (using a screwdriver) then lock them in place with the nut so no changes can occur. The nut should be touching the lower triple clamp.

  10. I have already adjusted them but since I want more of a turning circle, the handlebar touching the tank is the issue I'm trying to solve. Once I can get the maximum turning circle I will adjust the lock stops accordingly.

  11. Those look like the standard lock stops to me and right at the end of their adjustment.
Is it the switchgear hitting the tank or the bars themselves close to the clamp?

  12. It's the bars themselves that are hitting the drop of the tank near the clamps.

This makes me wonder if this avoidable when using the standard bars?

  13. Yes, with the lockstops adjusted as you've done even the standard bars are likely to hit the tank.
Unfortunatly I think you need to re-evaluate your expectation of how far you'd like to turn the bars.
