Replacement Battery From Halfords

  1. Thanks for the feedback all. Maybe should have bitten the bullet and paid the extra, we'll see... The fact that the one I bought was made, if I've got the date code thing right, only 4 months ago stands in it's favour. Ordered click and collect so have the receipt and it's on my Halfords account.

Just looked and the previous battery was bough from them in may of 2024, a year later than my addled brain recalled. Less than 2 years old but still out of warranty... not completely failed either but performing sub optimally IMHO. It's not had an easy 2 years though but all the same maybe indicative of a poor infancy in the 'cradle' of Halfords storage...

Interestingly the price is significantly less/the discount greater this time around. 2 years ago £55, now £40.

^ You've nailed it here, i wouldn't normally have been concerned by a (possibly extensive) "shelf life", but i've previously bought motorcycle batteries from there that immediately need a good charge. This was rarely a problem with "wet" batteries because acid only added at point of sale/close to point of sale.

  3. That's my understanding too Andy.

  4. How do you get a Halfords discount card through the forum ?

  5. Alas no longer available.

Have been a member for, just checked, 10 years this week  It was an added incentive to start paying a sub back then, through a deal that was available from Halfords to organised groups at the time, I believe no longer available and was stopped as an incentive here some time ago. It's possible that @El Toro had to apply to them for each new subscriber to be sent a card.

I can see that they appear to have tightened up their joining criteria.

It offers varying levels of discount depending on what you're buying. It's more than paid for all renewals since I started paid membership.

I can see from your profile that you joined the forum in 2012 so you've been here longer than me. If you started paying a sub around that time then maybe you were too early... Can't recall if you had to ask to be sent one when joining as a subscriber. Whichever way I regret to say that you've missed the boat on that one.

  6. The plug was pulled by Halfords when covid happened. And despite asking for them to re-instate the deal a dozen or so times after the event they wouldn't re-instate the offer. We tried, but to no avail. Sorry.

  8. I must be lucky (unusual for me!) as I have a Halfords trade card and have bought two car and two yuasa YT12B-BS in the last four years, not had any issues and hopefully not tempting fate by saying so. The bikes are on Optimate 4’s.
