I know it's been done before, but deals seems to be forever changing. So I am looking to do a trip this year, and would like to know who's using who for health insurance, accident, hospital and repatriation, and EU cover motorbike insurance accident damage and recovery. Not sure Iam going to bother with breakdown, but if anyone has any reasonable quotes it would be nice to know. Also not sure if better to get combined policies and or single trip. I've tried a few and over 15 years seems to be a problem. So anyone who has toured with early 90's bike recently it would nice to hear from you. Cheers Gaz
OK, not many older bikes around. One more question. I thought I read somewhere on here the following. So, if you have an insurance policy that has breakdown and covers europe, if you have an accident this would not cover getting the bike back to the UK as it is an accident not a breakdown. Sorry, sounds obvious, just checking. What policy would you get to get the bike back in this instance. Cheers Gaz.
My apologies but missed this. I use All Clear, although I’ve never had to claim. They were the only relatively cost effective health and repatriation whilst riding a motorcycle over 250cc and covering my age and medical history. I have recovery with IAMSurety but my Ducati is still within its warranty. Andy
Insured through Carol Nash, both bike and travel/health, when I had my off in France in 2023. Everything was covered; medical bills, cost of getting home, prescription issued by hospital etc. Bike was recovered, took about 6 weeks as insurance companies send large trucks to collect broken vehicles en masse. Bike went back to south of France before coming home (tracker was handy). Storage costs prior to collection were covered too. Fundamentally everything. Though bills from the hospital came from different departments in dribs and drabs, I just sent these to the underwriters and they all got paid as far as I'm aware. Insurance is only really worth it if it works. Previously had a medical emergency coming back from a group trip to the Dolomites. I was on the bike but I suffered from septicemia, spent 8 days in hospital, thankfully initial diagnosis was quick and I didn't die or suffer any long term damage. That time around I had my travel insurance with the post office. I had a right royal battle getting them to cover the costs of just the hospital stay (against medical advice I self repatriated on the bike once discharged).
