have the 2 bikes was out on my zzr1400 made a error in judging a overtake was committed saw oncoming vehicle and divvered did nothing just sat right in the middle of the sandwich closed my eyes ..phew got away with it cant believe i made such a massive error could have been curtains on another day about 5 miles later again overtake a car without seeing broke down vehicle on nearside forcing the car i'm overtaking out forcing me into oncoming at high speed gunned it made it passed. i then realized how lucky i had been and how bloody stupid i had been and its shock me up so much so the zzr is for sale on fleabay been riding bikes since i was 16 years do you think you lose your skills with age? i think i stick with my old mutly my brain can handle its speeds and thank god for looking after me so basically anyone want a 2010 zzr1400 missile way too fast for me
Glad nothing happened to you, I hope being 51 isn't a reason to give up cos I'm that age and certainly don't plan to stop yet! I must admit that I'm glad I ride an ST3 as I know my brain can't keep up with the speeds that the performance bikes offer!
Glad you are here to tell the tale, the zzr should sell quick as I understand they are in demand, not sure about this time of year though. i was only chatting earlier and telling my brother I think I am slowing down and not sure why, age thing or self preservation but having the power for a quick overtake is a must ! Multistrada for me and a nice high riding position ! 47 by the way
Agree, sounds like an off day, possibly you were preoccupied with the first incident when the second happened. I'm not overly fast and I'm older than you but I needed some affirmation that I wasn't a danger to myself or others so I did my IAM, gave my confidence quite a boost and I probably enjoy riding even more now...that might be because the number of years of riding left are significantly less than the ones gone :frown:
i agree with Daffy...i think weve all done it..a lapse of concentration or judgement...your mind maybe wandering off somewhere-its easy done.. im inclined to think that you made a mistake with the first incident and was probably replaying through your mind, then the next second, youre in another situation...its so very easy to do, and you probably do it in the car and dont even notice... if you seriously think the ZZR is too much, then by all means sell it...but id be inclined to let the dust settle before committing yourself.. Ones things for sure, one cant ride when scared or worried...its taken me all year to gradually regain my confidence and im still far from 100%, but at least now its 80-20 in favour with the excitement/fear percentages. Glad youre well and ok though mate. Thats the important bit...
i love riding bikes but it shook me up have 3 daughters. youngest is 14 i have commuted to work since but was proper concentrating not enjoying it proper mind f&*% ......... doubting myself to ride safe is IAM worth doing ? i did police bike safe 4 years ago now he said i had no issues but that was at 46 ! or am i overrecting?
you definately get slower in reactions with age. I was prob at my best 10 years ago. now im 42 and just don't feel as good as I used to. general fitness and slower responses and more limited movement aches and pains all spoil the party. I could do with a shackleton high back chair on my 999
give iam a go, some decry it, but you never know what will work for you. they usually give a trial ride out if you contact your local group and say you are thinking of it, but want to get a feel first for if it suits your style of learning/listening. Much depends though, like all things where an interactive relationship is needed, as to whether you strike a good rapport. give it a go.
sounds like you have lost concentration momentarily ....not reading far enough ahead and being greedy with the overtakes I have to keep reminding myself too....its easy done
IAM is worth a go. It will improve your confidence. As others have said, you had a bad day. Try a more conservative riding style/approach for a while until your confidence returns. Also, I agree with Mr. Rimpler. Don't sell your zzr in haste, it might be the best bike you have ever (or will ever) own.
Age has nothing to do with,I've got a 2013 Zzr 1400 amongst others and yes they're very fast but a very good multitask bike. You had a bad day which thankfully didn't get worst.Don't give in to the age perception thing yet as you have plenty of time to go before concidering that.
Glad your still all ok, maybe just had a off day . Think about all the other things in life that happen when it's an off day. Remember your only as old as you want to be. I have many superbikes and like the rest of us am not getting any younger but i can't imagine selling them just because i'm getting older each year. Don't react too soon just look it as another experience that your learn from.
I find having gone from 1000cc JIL4's to the 848EC SE that it's definitely not as fast in a straight line...........but it feels it. My 848 makes me work a bit harder. Not much more, but a bit nonetheless. And in doing so it feels like I'm doing the warp speeds that my R1/ZX10R/gixxer/Blade did. I'm 54 btw and love my sports bikes
I bought my Diavel at 53. Had termis fitted at 54. My life is much better as a result. The bike is capable of much much more than I am. I ride within my limits.
Maybe a good time to do another Bikesafe or go out with an IAM or other advanced rider? Certainly at 51 yrs you will have no problems but do ride with more in reserve and get back into all those good habits. We all get sloppy at times and I always try to imagine having a traffic cop behind me doing some tuition at good pace to make me concentrate. Ride safe.
