Tyre Buyers Beware

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by V4Missile, Mar 30, 2026.

  1. Hi, gals and guys. Just wanted to warn you about my recent experience getting a tyre for the new season. The tyre did not arrive, and chasing it up with DPD, they don't recognise the tracking number, or know anything about it. The company are moto-tyres.co.uk, run by Delticom Ltd. I'm posting a few pictures of my chasing moto-tyres.co.uk, and DPD (who I don't feel are to blame), and I am also chasing up PayPal. Just be careful not to buy through this seller. Dave

  2. Well, the good news is that its a real company, not a fly-by-night. They look like they're just an intermediary - the tyres will have been sent from somewhere else, not from their business address in Witney.

I'd keep pushing for tyres or a refund.

One useful step next time is to use a credit card. The credit company will either chase the purchase or refund you (since it's their money!)

  3. Thanks. I went through PayPal, but somehow paid by bank, not Credit Card as usual. Think the tyre came from Germany, that flashed up on screen just as I was pushing 'confirm' button. At least I was paying in 3 payments, so £57 is all that's gone out as yet. Just don't want other members buying and not getting their goods. That's now 3 weeks since ordering with no tyre, in Springtime!! Lucky I have my stock wheels with a usable tyre to go out on.

  4. PayPal offer their own Buyer Protection scheme, irrespective of funds used, as I understand it.

  5. The two people 'with significant control' (i.e. shares more than 25%, IIRC) are German. https://find-and-update.company-inf...any/04144833/persons-with-significant-control

You could try ringing and asking for one of them - or failing that their admin front who will pass the message on directly. They may just sort it out for you - as opposed to call centre staff who are taught to deflect. A royal pain in the arse having to do so, though.

  6. I ordered tyres some time ago from this bunch, they eventually arrived but were very slow. A week to 10 days I seem to remember.

  7. Well, I gave up after 3 weeks, and ordered from DFS Motorcycles on Ebay. Tyre arrived when they said it would, and courier took a photo as he delivered it. Professionalism at last!
    Moto-tyres.co.uk can front fork off.

  8. Did you get a refund from PayPal?

  9. No, not yet. They're giving the seller until the 8th April to respond. They still want me to continue the pay in 3 installments, though. I've had to buy elsewhere, now, so another £200 has gone out. PITA!

  10. They do, and it’s generally good, the exception is where they say it's delivered. I had a picture from Evri of a random door that was nowhere near where I lived and PayPal sided with the buyer. Luckily it was only a tenner or so.

  11. Thread moved

  12. Thanks, El Toro. I'd like to warn as many members as possible.

  13. Were FWR shut? no idea why anyone buys from anywhere else, especially places no on has heard of...

  14. Yes, PayPal refund just came through. Thanks for various advice and help, guys. New tyre from DFS came through and is fitted, ready to go. Dave

  15. Price was uncompetitive. Quite a lot of variation out there for the same tyres.

  16. With, perhaps, the difference in price reflected by the difference in service...

  17. I’ve bought tyres three times and a battery from Two Tyres on this forum, get a discount as a subscriber and they have arrived very promptly.

no help with your immediate problem but maybe for future reference.

  18. Understood, although going to one of the pricier suppliers is no guarantee of good service. Of course, many of us know that if we buy cheap, we sometimes buy twice. Moto-tyres.co.uk/scammers did try to rip me off, but when PayPal got my money back, i could have got the same tyre from 4 or 5 suppliers, for £15 less than FWR.

  19. To me the final price is when the goods are in my hand. If you don’t receive the goods that’s just a complete waste of time and money, even if you eventually get it back.

We avoid companies that use Evri as where we are located it’s a complete lottery as to whether the delivery will be made. Although it’s not always easy to determine where the fulfilment warehouse is, we try and avoid overseas shippers.

  20. I'm not entirely sure what the business model for tyre retailers is. I can't believe they all hold (any/much) stock and maybe they just have an 'account' with the tyre importers from which they buy goods at trade prices when customer orders come in. Delivery to the customer might even be direct from the importer

But, of course, you need both good cash flow & good credit with the importer for that to be a successful model. Something that only the big concerns have.
