  1. He didn't get banned for that. He got banned for amassing 12 points. The 46 in a 40mph was just the three that took him to, or over the 12.
I like that he didn't try to claim exemption from the ban by claiming his licence was essential to his livelihood as many do.
Everything I know about him is that he's essentially a decent honest chap, and it's not just a front for TV shows.

  2. Through letters from his lawyers, Martin admitted riding his bike at 46mph (74km/h) on the A50 near Leicester when the limit was 40mph (64km/h), and going at 78mph (125km/h) along the A43 near Brackley when a temporary 50mph (80km/h) limit was in place.

Court papers show Martin reached at least 12 penalty points on his licence and accepted that he must now serve a six-month driving ban. Martin was sentenced at Loughborough Magistrates' Court last week in private, with an order to pay a total of £1,329 in fines, costs and victim surcharges.

But I don't think Guy is "essentially an honest bloke" - remember when he tried to upgrade his licence to HGV using a fake Irish one to support his application? I think he knew full well that he had not passed the test or does he suffer from amnesia?

  4. I've just backspaced all of my reply as 46 in a 40! The maniac! When I get back home on Friday, I feel a bit of Supertramp and 'Crime of the Century ' coming on.

  5. Take Heed everyone.. as the methods get better and better and possibly the public outrage gets quieter, so the noose gets tighter.

  7. It’s inevitable that vehicles will be electronically prevented from going faster than the speed limit on any given road. The technology is already there and most of it is already fitted to all new cars.

  8. When Barry Sheene got fed up with speeding tickets and absurd limits on roads, he got a helicopter and learned how to fly it. Which didn't take him long.
No speed limits or cameras in the sky.

  9. The answer to which is to make the very most of it before it gets any worse.

  10. No problem. He can just buy himself another license from some bloke in a pub like he did last time :D

  11. Not quite the same running costs though. And crash in one of those and it’s very unlikely you will survive.

  12. I consider it a blessing that Barry was more sensible than Colin McRae in this unshackled area.

  13. I don't know him personally, so I've no fixed opinions. That there tellybox makes people appear to be saints and sinners all the time and it's rarely true.

I wonder if anyone thought Huw Edwards was "naughty" when they watched the news? On the flipside it turned out that Mandela was one of the brightest, kindest people (depite being jailed as a terrorist for 27 years)...

  14. Not wanting to shatter the dream but the 3 interactions ive seen the public have had with Guy Martin havent been good...it was a few years ago so not sure if hes changed....

  15. Although my decentpersonradar is not infallible i got 2 out of 2 right* for the last two you mention above. Like you, never met Guy but would wager a good bet that he is sound. I remember some race team outfit getting impatient with him because he liked to have a final meddle with a set-up after all work was supposed to be final, but no one is perfect.

    * saw Huw Edwards caught off-guard when a spectator at a snooker match. Couldn't put my finger on it, but something just wasn't quite right.

  16. A link would be good - might as well get it over with.

  17. No links...watched it myself....
