Multi V4S 2013 Hi all, Keep missing the turn indicator switch. It's positioned a bit too high ( for me). I keep pressing the joystick instead. An obvious solution ( not to move my thump up ) to me is to turn the assembly a bit downwards. Is this possible? If not, any other solutions?
No it’s not possible, the switch housing is pinned to the bars to locate it during assembly and won’t allow it to rotate You could always losen the handlebar clamp and rotate the bars a little, but that may not suit you comfort wise and your riding position
It is possible, but you would have drilled another hole in the handlebars for the bracket that the switch clips on to.
or put the seat into the higher position, which changes your position. ok, other topics (touching ground etc.) might come up if you do so
Either rotate the bars as suggested, or buy after market or even OEM bars and re tap to suit where you want the controls. It's not a tough job, just measure twice before drilling the pilot holes.
Got a copy of the workshop manual and rotating the switch assembly seems to be more involved than expected - ie removing the grip and requiring a "special" tool. First reading...not as simple... Rotating the handlebar is easier but I am afraid it could cause more issues with the right wrist when twisting the throttle. ( Never had the indicator issue with my multi 1200, no joystick there). More thinking
You can slide the grip back, or remove it altogether. If you’re drilling the handlebars, I wouldn’t want to do it with them in situ. The special tool for the cluster can be replaced with a small flat blade screwdriver. It’s a bit of an arse to get off, but not too bad. The indicators aren’t really a problem for me, but I drive a BMW so…
You may be able to pull the pin out of the switch cluster simply with a pair of pliers, allowing you to rotate the switches to where you want them. If the assembly can’t then be tightened sufficiently to ensure its location, a couple of winds of insulating tape around the bars, for the cluster to ‘bite’ onto, should cure that. Should the experiment not provide you the solution you want, the pin can simply be replaced.
To be fair, you can fit the cluster without the bracket in place. You’ll need to clamp it against the grip and mirror.
I keep looking at it and i cannot see a pin to pull out. There is a hole and i think the tool is used to push a clip of sort down or up to release the assembly.
You've got it. The clip has a dowel that locates into the handlebars. There's a gap in the clip with a push fit part that goes into the cluster, push that down and slide the cluster away from the bike towards the grip.
