V4 After Market Warranty

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Andrew46, May 27, 2026.

  1. My warranty on my Pikes Peak comes to an end in July, by then it will have done about 27k miles.
I've never really bothered with extended non manufacturer warranties, so has anybody purchased one for a Ducati, and if you've needed to use it, was it actually worth the paper it was written on?
    Many thanks.

  2. Who would you be expecting the warranty work to be conducted by?
    Main Dealer?
I would speak to the main dealer first as lots of them avoid non-manufacturer warranties like the plague.
In your 27k miles have you had a warranty claim? If no, then an alternative would be to self-insure. Put the monthly premium into a savings account so that a pot of money accrues for a rainy day. The bonus is that if no claim is made then you have a nest egg to spend on a ‘new’ bike.

  3. If my memory is not telling me lies, I’m pretty sure the Ducati “used” warranty is provided by a third party. As Chris said, have a chat with your dealer and I do like his suggestion of saving for a rainy day, very much a his a my generation idea :D Andy

  4. Ducati warranties appear to be underwritten by Volkswagen Financial Services.

  5. I've had a quickshifter under warranty, so not exactly the end of the world. Being of the older (ish) generation I would agree with your and Andy's suggestion and almost certain that's what I'll do, but just wondered if there were any worth having. Don't know why, apart from wanting to sell you a new bike, they can't offer extensions as long you have them serviced by a main dealer, Suzuki do for up to 10 years, and BMW (I think).
My nest egg is taking a hammering at the moment so no new bike for a while, son is getting married on Saturday and daughter is just about to buy a house, I said I'd match her deposit :scream:

  6. non-manufacturer warranty = an insurance policy.
Bear that in mind when considering one

  7. I agree with this philosophy, but you have to invest for many years to be sure to fall on the winning side, I've done 25 years of no extras, minimum insurance for everything, flights, bikes and cars..etc. Had a couple of bumps along the way, but have defo come out positive over the duration. ;)

  8. Personally, I'd skip on extended warranty as if I remember correctly, not only is it a third party, but conditions are different too. So it's more akin to fighting an insurance company rather than dealer if something goes wrong.

Ditch the retail showroom dealers, instead invest in finding an indie garage that will be there when you need.

  9. I like this idea - my warranty is up in October too, and my mileage is also 'high' (not really, but in the bike world it seems to be!) = bike is devaluing relative to main dealer costs.

Is there a list of reliable indie Ducati garages (for modern kit - i.e. V4 Multistradas, etc)?
All in the Dealer Reviews section are Ducati approved ones, as far as I can see.

  11. Most insurance companies make a profit, so do bookies and the odds are not with you on a warranty washing its face. The 4 year multi warranty from new is a class leader which tells you something about the bike I like to think.

  12. For V4 Multis, other than the RS, the need for an out and out Ducati specialist is maybe not quite as important as there's no Desmo service to perform, the tech is reasonably similar to other marques. A decent, reputable indi should be capable (not sure if there are any special tools required though). If you need diagnostics find someone who has the kit or invest in that yourself.

Re. insurance warranties, check the labour rate limit, likely that there will be one. We found that when buying a new car for my partner this was £50/hr with the RAC one we were offered by the dealer. You'll find it difficult to find a decent workshop with rates that low. So not only having to fight the insurance company to cover a claim (that's what it is) you'll find that you'll be making a significant contribution to any claim above any excess. We obvs said, no forget it, we'll just take the included warranty.
