Squished Cables - 1260 Multistrada Enduro

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Nasher, May 26, 2026.

  1. Could somebody else with a 1260 Enduro please compare these images with their own bike and let me know if there are any differences in the cable routing.

I’ve got the handlebars adjusted height wise so that according to the marks they are about a third from the lowest possible setting:

This gives a finger sized gap between the Tank cover and switchgear on full lock to Port, but just the slightest of gaps on full lock to Starboard.

I don’t really want to lift them as I adjusted them to where they are when I first got the bike and I’m happy they are comfortable for me.

The issue is the clutch Hose, and cables etc from the left hand switchgear.

When turning to Port the cables move in free space and the bars stop with the nice solid feel of the lockstop engaging. Nothing around the headstock gets anywhere near being trapped.

However when turning to Starboard the bundle of cables and Clutch hose get ‘Squished’ between the yoke and dashboard, the dash actually moves a few mm before the lockstop engages and quite a bit of force is required to hold the bars against the lockstop.

This obviously isn’t great, and to be honest I’m surprised it’s ever passed an MOT like that.

The obvious thing to investigate is the Lockstops.
I can’t get an image of them, but have found that they are already adjusted right out as far as I’d like them to be. The limiting factor being that the end of the grub screws is already part way down the threaded hole in the yoke, and if I adjust them out enough to solve my problem there won’t be enough thread engagement into the yoke to be secure.

I have some longer M8 Stainless Grub screws I can replace them with, but I have to wonder if I’m treating the symptom not the illness.

So my question after all that is - Are my cables routed as they should be?
Has somebody been in there and rerouted them for some reason.

I’m reasonably sure from looking at images online that I have standard handlebars, risers, and clamp.

    Thanks

  2. This is pretty normal imo, on the two 1260's I've owned, both had this, the bundle of cables slightly crushes against the dash at max lock. I've not experienced any actual issues from this other than not liking it visually or mentally when I do go full lock.

For what it's worth, I've changed to shorter bars, which reduced max turning lock, along with risers and this still happens.

  3. Thanks @freshage
In the absence of anything else I changed the lock stops over the weekend to longer Stainless ones I happen to have, and have reduced the starboard lock just enough that the cables now kiss the dash and don't move it.

  4. What's preventing you re-routing the cables? I'm guessing that there's not enough slack...

  5. I tried several ways to get them into a different position, but, actually because they are so long, it's not really possible, I'd have to shorten the Clutch hose for example.
10 mins swapping out the lockstops and losing a very small amount of lock in one direction feels like the best option if they are routed as intended.
