Aprillia claim their new v4 is the most powerful bike out there. Has anyone ridden one back to back in anger, and the new Panigale to see which one is actually more powerful?
Claimed 220 vs claimed 216 hp, it won’t be the power at the redline that makes one quicker than the other though
Botty dyno would never detect power delta. I think the Aprilia looks and sounds great with reviews to match. It would certainly be on my radar if I was looking to replace my V4S. Aprilias have acquired ergonomics apparently. Try before you buy being key.
While the headlines read well, and the 4 bhp tips it in favour of the RSV, I think the weight will be more telling to us mere mortals. V4R at 187kg vs. 204kg for the Aprilia is quite a chunk and for me, worth much more than 4 ponies. I think you’d feel that whether you’re on road or track.
Here’s a dyno comparison, bear in mind this is a North America spec Panigale where they have to gimp the top end on the stock exhaust to meet noise regulations, you can expect a more linear output everywhere else in the world. Pani has more midrange and revs futher
Somebody has been seriously shortchanging you on your Bags of Cement if you think that. It's still significant though.
With those weights and the performance already available a few kg's and four hp on the road or track are irrelevant and unnoticeable, unless you're a top line racer. One might feel better and nicer to ride than the other but which will change from one person to another.
It really depends on where the weight is. My bug bear with top heavy bikes is when trying to move them around in the garage etc. I'm sure pushing my Triumph Scrambler 1200 around has opened up an old hernia...
Most top-heavy bike I ever rode was a Honda 1200 Crosstourer. Felt like the petrol tank was full of concrete and if it went 10 degrees off vertical there'd be no saving it. And it didn't even have a full tank of fuel.
I always sit on my 1260 Enduro and paddle it about with my feet. It's not just top heavy, especially full of fuel, but the bars are so wide it feels really awkward whilst trying to keep it upright and not lean it too far away from me as I'd never be able to recover it from even the slightest angle, and I'm quite a strong guy. I really don't understand how anyone under 6' could own one.
