How Do I Sell My 748r?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by steve 748r, Jun 7, 2026 at 10:26 AM.

  1. Hi guys. I have a 748r y2k gen1 that has been off the road for around 6 years. It needs recommissioning and I don't want to do it as I'm going through a divorce and have enough on. I have tried several times on here to sell but with no joy.
I'm just asking for a bit to advice as to how to sell as i can't keep it for much longer.
    Sensible answers would be appreciated.
    Thanks guys

  2. I believe you need a minimum of 30 posts to be able to do that bud. Keep adding to the Word Association thread ;)

  3. Oh okay. Thanks for that

  4. You need to pay £5 to become a subscriber, that allows you to sell on this forum.

You can't post in the for sale or wanted thread without the fee being paid.

Unless you posted your advert when you were a subscriber.

  5. I see, thanks for your help

  6. Unfortunately the bottom line is...if it's cheap for what it is...it will sell.

  7. Steve has already done and tried this by the looks of it. That's not what he's asking. He wants advice trying to sell it, not help making a for sale ad

@steve 748r you're only going to get the same advice you got last time about the price being too high i think.
If it really needs going asap and needs a service and what not then a lower price than what you originally had it up for will be the only way

  8. Ebay auction with a reserve? If it doesn't reach the reserve then you would at least see how the market values it.

  10. Thanks for all the replies, guys. I guess I just don't know it's value in it's current state.

  11. My brother has looked at quite a few recently both private and dealers and some are asking silly money.
I know a slab side mint bike is worth more but £14k ish !
As already said a bike that has stood for years is going to need a good whack spent on it so it needs to be £3k cheaper than a fully sorted bike to allow for any hidden extras, which it more than likely will need.
Mk1 Showa models which have had services, belts etc can be had for £8k or thereabouts and they too probably need a bit spending on them.

I know some have said get it recommissioned yourself but I don’t think that will help in your case as you are going to have to fork out a fortune, put your price up to reflect that and it still might not sell so you are worse off.

I personally considering your situation ( been there ) would price it to sell and get out of it.

  12. You could try Car & Classic with a free ad but a classified on evilbay will get a lot more viewings.
Like others I think it is way overpriced for a Generation 1 R and in my view in the current market is closer to 1/2 your original price.
But GLWS anyway, having owned two slab side R's they are a superb ride.

  16. To answer your question, it's painful but providing you have advertised it on many sites, with close-up, good-quality pictures with a brief accurate description, then it can only leave the price that's needing re-assessing. This is not a sweeping statement. I took a 2.5k hit on a "similarly priced" Ducati recently, a drop from a solid offer only 2 years earlier. I could have lost less if i hadn't been in denial about the current market* as i was chasing behind the dropping price rather than being in front of it (if that makes any sense).

Here is an auction site which is very useful for me, as cars and bikes sold still include the selling price.
I just looked hoping to find a recently sold 748R - there are two from 2024.**
You can also look at similar bikes sold recently and ask yourself - is my bike more valuable than this?

As said, it is painful but if you trust the results it's a good "benchmark" for what you might obtain in the UK.

*i believe "prices" (a weak, generalisation, sorry) are still dropping on looking recently
**the 749R that went for around 12k only had 1,925 miles on it, out of interest.
